Hi friends,
Can anyone recommend any self working gimmicked decks or simple card tricks that can be performed one handed/with the use of a puppet? |

The electric deck springs to mind. You can spread it with one hand and have someone think of a card they see, then you drop the deck into a bag and claim that the puppet will find the card. Have the spectator name the card and the puppet pulls the entire electric deck out of the bag. This is actually an old Karrell Fox gag/idea.

I do something that is quite similar. Use a one way deck to force a card and then you or the puppet use a 'magic rope' to find the card. Put the whole deck in a bag and use one of those card catching ropes (think its called Lasso Rope or something) to find it for you.

Kevin James in his instant-magician-routine holds a deck of cards in one hand and then one after another he shoots the cards in the air (rather slight of hand than a magic trick).
The puppet could take a rope into its mouth, lower the rope into a bag and then the prior forced card is knotted on the rope: Card-On-A-Rope Magic Trick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRVgIF_wY6I David Ginn sells a trick that might be helpful: The Magical Dog Arm Puppet Complete Dog Package with puppet, cards, blindfold www.ginnmagic.com The trick "Chico the Mind Reader" might also give you ideas: http://www.billabbottmagic.com/online-store/Chico_Page.html |

Though I haven't used it in a couple of years
I used to do Levand's Oil and water. It can't be done any slower as Nigel watched over me to make sure every thing was Kosher. Ever since reading the book Magic and seeing Hopkins work with Corky in the movie I have used vent and puppets as great direction devices.

Consider the Tossed Out Deck. You have a deck of cards wrapped by a rubber band. Toss into the audience and three spectators each look at a card and toss the deck back. Puppet names the 3 cards. Requires good audience management skills, particularly in instructing spectators how to look at their cards, but it's very effective.

Well for those playing along at home I went with a simple Svengali deck. Thanks everyone for your great suggestions! I should be able to include them in future routines

How about folding up a playing card and puting it into the doll's shoe....You then have him do the magician's choice down to that single card! do you want number cards or picture cards? etc. etc..
