Yeah, anything you can handle comfortably in the hands will work fine. Business cards, cool. Playing cards, cool. A1 posters, not it.
The thickness of the card isn't really important (you'd struggle with thin paper though). Stick to Business card to playing card kinda size range and thickness and you'll have no trouble! Once you learn the method you'll easily understand what will work best, I cover what I use for it. DC

I just bought The "Block Peek" from Dee Christopher and all I can say is "WOW".
Dee's method is extremely simple, effective and invisible. The Peek is highly visible, since you can Peek the complete Card. Works perfect with my Business Cards. Thank you Dee for this Great Release! Highly recommanded!!!

So I bought The Block Peek by Dee Christopher, and here is my honest review.
If you don't already have a go-to full business card peek, and are looking for one that does not require wallets or envelopes and is suitable for close-up, walk-around and casual performances, I can recommend The Block Peek as one you may want to purchase and evaluate. It does what it says it does on the tin. As Dee says in the advert video, you can make the gimmick quite easily from items you probably already have at home, or can easily and inexpensively purchase just about anywhere. I would also agree that as Dee says in the promo video, with just this one method, you could walk into a room and ready the minds of everyone, although I'm not sure you would want to do that with the same method over and over again. I already have several full business card peeks that I use, and I purchased The Block Peek to expand my knowledge, and possibly discover a new alternative that I may consider using in the future. For my personal tastes and approach, I don't think I will be using The Block Peek. There are simply other methods I find to be a better fit for my style, which require fewer moves, and which I find cleaner. Some of these methods are commercially available, and taught by Banachek, Looch and John Riggs, and others I've developed on my own. Everyone is different. This is my opinion only. If you are interested in learning new method, or actively looking for a new full business card peek, you will certainly find a practical, workable method in The Block Peek. |

I have had the absolute pleasure of using this for the past couple of weeks and I have to say, it is such a brilliant method to gain information! I carry peeks wallets, business cards, peek devices, imp devices etc and love discovering new methods. This one is one will be on me forevermore! I love the simplicity and more importantly fairness of it! You don't have to over prove anything because the ultra fair conditions of everything mean you don't need too!
If you are a fan of clean, simple and direct methods to gain information, this really is one you shouldn't live without! I cant recommend it enough! Jamie Daws

Hey Les; 1984 isn't 'officially' out yet - I have had just a small number made for my site to test the water (each one is made by Jamie Daws on his marvellous envelope cutting machine and hand finished, so it takes time), which comes with a card with a download/streaming link to a video teaching the method.
The response has been great on this pre-release version though, when the new video with live performances and a proper demo is done and packaging is finished, we'll be releasing a proper batch of them over at Penguin. Probably some time in 2018. The envelope it's self is made from sturdy and high quality card, so if looked after, will last a very long time. My handling of the envelope has the spectator taking hold, making sure it's opaque and removing a card from it to write on. Once the card is placed back in the envelope, you're free to get your peek. The big advantage to the psychology and mechanics of my handling and script is that you're having the spectator examine the envelope during your pre-script without directly asking them to examine anything, they will be sure that there is no way to see through, and the big advantage to the envelope it's self is that it looks completely normal, yet holds a very effective peeking capability that's invisible without pulling the thing apart. I've used many different types of window and slit envelopes with great success over the years, but once I finally held the first finished 1984 envelope in my hands, I knew that I was truly handling something that takes the concept to a totally new level. Hopefully a couple of people that have bought/used the envelope will pop in at some point, (I'm not sure how active the people on my little mailing list are on the Café) but I've had a lot of feedback so far from the buyers, all of whom are loving it and many of whom have bought extra envelopes so they have spares. We (We being Jamie and I, it's just us involved currently) also provide an extra un-gimmicked envelope in the package; a switch isn't necessary, but I figured that some people might like to have the option! Hope that helps!

Is this a replacement for the center tear. It seems both will do the same thing.

@Les, Looking forward to your thoughts!
@Steven, The centre tear is a classic for a reason; but I prefer not to tear when working walkabout to avoid a pocket full of confetti, so Block works perfectly for me! It also gives you a peek of the full card, rather than just a segment, so writing size isn't an issue in low-light; I usually work nightclubs, so things like Acidus aren't ideal for me!
