I have what I believe is an old Fenichel jumbo deck. but I do not have a flip around card. Is there any where one could purchase one?

Mixman,
As you can see from my previous posting above, I have made a turn around card and may be making a couple more. The way I designed my card, it rises about 1/3 to 1/2 way out of the deck and then turns around. Since the method I use requires a spring loaded flap... it happens quite quickly, which means the attention must be on the deck when it happens to get maximum impact and effect. The method is simple using cut cards, dental dam, glue and a LOT of patience to get it to work well. The result is a playing card that is about 2 cards thick and in many cases (such as a court card) is nearly invisible at a fairly close distance. My method is based on an explanation in Genii Magazine around 1970 in Charlie Miller's column. (I can't recall the issue date, exactly, but Jack Gwynne was on the cover). The one I am using now is about 3 years old and I use it all the time ...and it still works great. You can look there and make one yourself or I could make one for you, if I knew what card you needed it to be (Force card). Perhaps it doesn't matter which card it is and that is possible if you have no specific force card in mind. Anyway, you can expect to pay about $30 per card and postage. In any case, Bill is mostly correct... this is a cottage industry we are in and finding these special items is getting more and more difficult each day! PS- not to make an 'Ad' out of this, but I make moving pip cards as well! Regards- J.Neal

Heck, Dick! I'm so 'old school' I make EVERYTHING myself: I made the houlette, sewed the ribbons, and even made the box it is stored in.
(Okito used to say you haven't really mastered a trick until you know how and have a way to pack it!) My theory is that if you make it yourself... you don't have to rely on anyone else for replacement parts or repairs. (look carefully at the front card and you'll see it is for a moving pip) Click here to view attached image.

This "World of Magic" is a LOT smaller on the inside looking out than on the outside looking in. Bad news travels fast. Once your reputation is gone.....everybody knows about it.

Whose reputation is gone? Is it me? If everyone knows it... Why don't I ?
Oh he.. I get it. Rainbow guy was responding to a posted message that has since been deleted! I thought for a moment I was losing my mind... (And reputation)

I think you're good to go on (at least) both counts, JNeal.....
BTW, have you read Dick's book yet? |

Not yet... but it is on my (very) short list of must reads! Dick is a modern day Charlie Miller: he did the real stuff for real people....

A slightly different but comical twist I am sorry I had to sell several years back is the Billy McComb (Remote control) rising card rig. What made it wonderful was that at first the WRONG (single) card rose, stopped -- and, chastized, slowly and sadly descended back to the houlet. Then the CORRECT card rose in triumph. I forgot whether I got this through Stevens but Joe was close to Billy for years before his death,.

Chmara, that is a very empathetic gag. I'm sure it must score great with an audience!

I still have the rising cards with one that turns around. A wooden block. It has the clockwork in that that you have to wind. Was an okay prop. I did not like it that much. It is all worn out now. The only thing good about it was the turn around card.
I got one like someone showed in the link to Abbott's. It has the black and clear holder. It is too difficult to set up every time. You have to thread the cards every time. The guy I bought it from let me return it( FAB). The one Mad Hatter is selling is decent and it works as advertised: http://madhattermagicshop.com/magicshop/......id=18483 But the one I actually use in all my shows is this, you get the new thin Bicycle stock: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13369 I have about a dozen of the original ones made of the old jumbo thick Bicycle stock ( all worn out, I've performed this a million times ) The new Bicycle stock is lighter. It makes the cards rising a million times easier. I had a local wood worker make a holder for mine. This deck will fit in a side jacket pocket, and yes I use it for close up without the wooden holder. The last card rises out of the box. I've performed with these new decks about a half a million times. If someone has wet hands from holding a drink, two cards will stick. I use this to my advantage on the last card. These are light enough that two stuck together with a tiny bit of wetness will rise together. The last person will say it is not their card. And with a sharp flick of the finger, the front one will fall and show the correct one. It gets great reactions up and close. I can handle the cards well and shuffle them up and close in their face. For stage I get 3 children up, force dups from a small deck so they will "match". For the last card I have the smallest kid hold the deck in the wooden Holder and they make it rise to applause. Paul diamond gave me the tip to use fanning powder inside these decks to make the rise smoother. Hope this helps. ACE
