I found it performing. After a while I start to see what plays well and what seems out of place. And eventually I found what I can do and what I can't even if I like the effect. My advice is perform as much as you can and listen your audience. Record your performances, watch them with a critical eye , keep changing until everything looks natural to your persona or your character. Good luck

I attended Dani daOrtiz's lecture, got to sit next to him, and saw him fool all the magicians in the room (me included, of course). It changed me. I updated my repertoire, and now, instead of doing a magic show, I exchange with my audience. I chat with them, I connect with them, and somehow, magic happened, I don't know how... (I know how!) I've integrated a lot of psychology in my effects. I stopped giving a sh*t about the trick; I can't fail a difficult move, because I'm doing everything in the open, as part of my interactions with the audience (which has no clue about when the trick will or has started). Now, I enjoy being with them, and I get away with murder. Yes, that means that I don't do an ACR, nor a three-phases in-your-face sandwich routine anymore. But I think it's totally worth it for me...
Also, I tried story-telling magic the other day for a competition. Worked out better than I thought, so I'll investigate that side of me as well. P! |

I agree with ado . I found that my audience was more attentive and willing to learn more about me by presenting a story to them instead of look what I can do .
It allowed them to interested in me as well. |

I looked at every magician that I really enjoyed and looked at the reasons I enjoyed learning from them. It was their personality and style that made me want to purchase all their works. Become relatable

I guess it is better to be very open minded at the beginning , work a lot and look at very different styles, understand what you like or not and keep only the part that you like. Progressively your magic style will match your personality
