Eric Richardson's Lucid (2015) uses a similar method ( but in card magic).
He makes use of a prop developed by Korem/Andrus in the 70s and later modified by Shawn Farquhar Eric applies this idea to peeking a playing card. Eric implies it was originally a throwaway idea , but he got good reactions in performance. My reaction to Lucid : there are several sophisticated card peeks that require no gimmicks and no special deck. Pursue these instead. As for Visions, which Sean performed for me at LADS convention this weekend, it is not clear to me (from a spectator's point of view) why the business card should be placed back into the stack. This is slightly suspicious even though the method is not obvious. Nevertheless, Visions, I think, is a compact and more practical version of Lucid. Lucid is clunky and inelegant and leaves you with an unusable deck. |

I (almost) equally like Vision and Hollow.
I find the main differences to be weight, and naturalness of "the return". So far, I lean towards Hollow. I've read some people mention the issue with a card hanging up in the frame. I just replace it myself, make sure to lift the edge a bit, and use a light touch. Also, experimenting with thicker/thinner edges helped me. But Vision gives a full card p***... that's hard to beat. As for the coloration (edges) matching up. I used some white out as suggested, then used a knife to scratch lines over it. This seems to really blend the card stack together. I think both are great, and it really just comes down to handling preference, and negligible trade offs. I look forward to getting more experience with Vision. 252MindlessRant

I think Vision is a little like the Thumb Tip really in terms of visibility - with both they aren't really seen in full view in performance. However, magicians need to feel comfortable with the gimmick and the handling so if this means blending the Vision gimmick to more closely match your business card stack, then so be it. Let me know how you get on with Vision. Thanks for your support.

So…
I bought this a few weeks ago. TBH when I first opened it I thought the red bag looked lovely Then I saw the gimmick – I got a massive case of buyer’s remorse Then I watched the training videos – and now I can’t wait to get out and perform this A real roller coaster ride of emotions I think looking at the gimmick – in my hands – in the cold light of day, I thought it was unworkable [that is in my inexperienced hands] Watching the videos didn’t just have the effect of changing my mind over the gimmick, I also thought SG came across so well on the videos. I loved his passion, not just for the product – but even his love of Kenya… and then when he ‘played’ the part of a spec, and the spec chose Kenya, the little look from SG [of joy that the spec <that he was playing> had chosen his favourite place] to camera was most endearing Anyway – this is a longer term project for me [to perform this] – not because it has any super tough moves. Though when I saw it at first I did think it would be a night mare to ‘get into play’ / handle. But longer term as I don’t have any business cards. So in a way this could be an advantage. I can ask for advice. Imagine you were going to buy the best business cards for this effect, people who have used it – what do you recommend? I got the USA sized one [though I’m UK based] just prefer the dimensions What I’m wondering is colour of the card. Obviously white - but which white? I’m going to get the pen suggested by SG for edges. But is there a better colour [shade of white] for the cards that makes things more invisible. Also I guess the cards having some colour on [face side - like a photo - maybe a close up of my inexperienced hands] will make things look more legit [?] As I’m buying it all from scratch – it would be good to get the best ‘camouflaging’ biz cards I can. I know there are probably only a few percentile points of ‘gain’ in it but why not take them if you can. Anyway thanks SG for a product that I’m looking forward to taking out ASAP And thanks to anyone who takes the time to offer help/adivce/abuse - all are welcome |

Hey TheDuster, I agree.
And the more I mess around with it, the more I also agree, that thinking of it along the lines of a TT helps. Meaning, over worrying about exactly matching card color for instance, shouldn't be a huge concern. Same mentality applies imo. Treat it like it's exactly what it appears to be, and fuggedaboutit And for what it's worth, it's just plain hard to not like Sean.

Just be careful when ordering - dealers have only got the US sized gimmick (89 x 51) and not the UK sized one (85 x 55). If you need the UK sized one then you can get them directly from me - www.simplymagic.co.uk/kaps.html
I showed Vision in conjunction with another effect of mine called CelebriDate at the Magic Circle last Monday and it seemed to go down well. Thanks again for your support.

I have solved the discrepancy in the stack by painting both the side of the gimmick and the side of business cards with white correction fluid (tipp-ex). Put a rubber band around the stack and paint both at the same time. Remove any redundant paint and you are good to go.

Would be better if card was not put in stack but left on table and then revealed as the same shape at the end.

Why must one go thru all this work to make a final product final. I'm exhausted reading about all these fixes, enhancements and improvements.
Reads like a do it yourself product. I'm going to wait for Sean to put out a v2 ready to go. |

LOL John C! It really isn't a DIY project - honest! Magicians just like to "tweek" things don't they! The Vision gimmick can be used as it comes - it's a bit like a Thumb Tip really I guess - some magicians want a perfectly matching TT to match their skin tone etc, whilst others aren't bothered as the TT doessn't really become exposed in the routine - exactly the same here.

So I bought the thing that Sean says to use if you want to add something to it. I only bought it because my friend a magician worried me. I never changed the gimmick I only use it as it comes out of the box. No one ever sees it. To put this in context. I am not a very skilled magician. I can do an ok DL, a very basic coin vanish. I am a presenter, not a not a sleight of hand magician. I just ask them to do a drawing > I ask them to place it back in the pack right on top of the gimmick and they never see it. Why because they are focussed on not letting me look. Most people make eye contact with me in case I see it when they put it back in the pack. This is so simple to do anyone can do it. Having said that my friend Kevin isn't using this is not his type of trick. The 3 tricks I do often are: Vanishing Pack, Invisible deck and Vision. I get an amazing reaction from all 3. None of then need much technical skill just showmanship. What I am trying to say is don't get hung up or worry about anyone seeing the gimmick. If someone at my skill level can do this, anyone can! I spent far too money on magic in the last 12 months. I purchased some great tricks, this is the one I use the most. Disclaimer: I worked with Sean about 20years ago. I was DJing he was the magician. I think we may have worked together few times after that. When I work with Sean the first time he spiked my interest to take another look a magic. That hasn't influenced to give vision such a glowing review. I genuinely believe this is a great prop. |
