ASE is a great routine. Before we overanalyze this, I would like to remind us about what Dan Harlan also said in the instructions: ASE has an added strength because seemingly the business card folded by the spec herself (which in itself is a strength), does never leave her hands during the routine. Meaning there is absolutely no heat, when you unfold the card that is suppose to have the All Seeing Eye drawn on it.
A tip, if you still want to avoid the "I forgot. I just need to charge the third eye" patter. I use business cards and sharpies. They reason/excuse for unfolding the card and lifting it up is to say "by the way - this card is so thick that it's impossible to see the writing through the card, right? Even if I hold to the light you wont be able to see through." If you want to go with the-third-eye patter type, you could instead say this as an alternative. I'm just going to say while casually unfolding the billet and putting it to my forehead: "it's kind of like developing the third eye known from the Hinduism philosophy/religion? Ever heard about developing the third eye?" By asking a question, I've experienced that the spectators all start thinking (of course). Moreover somebody will answer "yes (or No), da da da". When people start thinking, they kind of forget what happened meanwhile, and they will most likely forget that I ever opened and refolded the billet. And since somebody chipped in with "Yes/No, da da da", they will be misdirected to look at that person, which also makes them forget what happened meanwhile. And remember, I will repeat because it is important: ASE has the added strength because seemingly the business card folded by the spec herself, does never leave her hands during the routine. Meaning there is absolutely no heat, when you unfold the card that is suppose to have the All Seeing Eye drawn on it. It will definitely fly by. There is always a challenge in every routine. For a manual (no electronics) everywhere routine, you need to touch the card somehow to get the information. And I believe ASE is a great contribution and a great tool that I will definitely be using. My most preferred tool is simply to do a business card switch directly via a DL or while dealing the card down as in AOK by Lewis De Val. All the best Jan |
