I’m trying to find the originator of an effect that I’ve seen performed a couple of times on TV by two different magicians.
In the presentation, the magician invites a spectator to hold a cup of coke on top of her head and the performer does the same. The performer asks the spectator to repeat several moves and while the she is distracted, the performer drinks the coke from his cup (the performer’s cup.) The spectator is then instructed to hold her cup above her head and turn it over just as the performer does with his cup and to everyone’s surprise; the spectator is not drenched in coke. I know the secret of the effect, but I’d like to know if this has been published or who is the creator. I greatly appreciate any information anyone can provide. Thanks! andrew |

As it turns out, my question was answered in another thread that I failed to see until after I posted here.
Moxahalla pointed out that the routine is published in the "SLUSH!" booklet (Pub. by Fun, Inc./ Gabe Fajuri & Patrick Page). andrew |

Thanks much for letting us know, I would have suggested that they come up with it themselves after buying some of the Slush, as the booklet was sold separately, an from being on the Café, we all here how no one want to read anymore, they demand videos.
You're the best, thanks! |

Absolutely!
While I enjoy videos, there is great magical treasure in books. The Tarbell series, The Trick Brain, and so many more are rich in golden ideas. andrew |

I've seen many more performers who do this routine with water, as opposed to another type of liquid (like Coke).

Donald,
Yes. I've developed a Gospel routine for this and use water as opposed to coke. That's why I was trying to find the original creator of the effect. I plan to submit my routine to The Voice of the FCM, but wanted to be certain to credit the person who had the original idea. andrew |

I was under the impression that John Cassidy (balloon guy) created this routine.

I just checked the Slush book and the routine you have seen done on TV is NOT in that book. The concept of you drinking the liquid while the spectator is unaware was created by John Cassidy and he is rather LIVID that some notable magicians have taken it, without permission, even after knowing it was John's. I know because I asked him if I could do it a few years back. He is 100% confident it is his. He does not want anyone else doing it.
Bottom line, it is NOT in print and no one should be doing it without John's blessing. |
