Saw mention of this over in the thread about Calen Morelli's Odyssey, but I could find no other information about it on the Café.
http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S21606 Does anyone have this yet? Reviews or thoughts? |

I think it's evident and easy how to perform the last two moves shown in the video. What seems extremely difficult is the first move. It reminds me of the main move taught in Circuit, but this one is even cleaner. I mean, I'm really, really impressed.

The last two, as in the sequence starting at 1:00, with the arm roll? Agreed.
I agree the main one is very good - Circuit had the hand mostly sideways, and this is vertical, which is stunning, along with the ring being at the base of the fingers instead of at the first knuckle. But I'm also curious about the very first "toss the ring into the air and spear it", which is beautiful, and I'm not sure if it's just incredibly knacky, or if there's something else going on. |

Curious for reviews too but based on the ad copy, safe to say this is all purely skill based moves.
No dupes or switches too so I think the ring toss is exactly what it appears to be. He is definitely holding it and tossing it a certain way so there must be a knack to it. I'm a big fan of Circuit so I may pick this up at some point. |

Here's a performance video. A couple of moves are inspired by Night Crawler.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9CHnZWRhAo It got it down the first day I watched the tutorial, although like I said in the video, it wasn't smooth or the timing always right, and sometimes I miss (the ring flies across the room, making some marks in the wall...). But after 2-3 days of little practice, it went smooth. It's not too difficult honestly. I have to admit that over time my technique has changed, and my method is different than the one taught by CF Yuen. I have read somewhere here that you need flexible fingers. Not sure about that. Two methods are taught, only one of needs really a finger to bend back. Also, in the video, I do the moves by waving my hand. I want to present this effect as some sort of hypnosis experiment or I can talk about optical illusion or something of this sort. They see the ring in middle finger, I wave my hand, making circles, and then the ring is in index finger, and then ring finger. Because as Yuen teaches the moves, it screams sleight of hand, manipulation. I hate this, and I don't want people to think I'm using some subtle manipulation. So I came up with my own version of his move. In just one week I managed to find different ways of making the ring "jump" from finger to finger, using this principle. As a bonus, Yuen at the end of the tutorial, teaches you how to make the ring jump from hand to hand when both hands are joined together, with fingers spread apart. I like this part. But again, I don't do it as Yuen shows, and I came up with my own variation, again, I don't want to think I'm using sleight of hand. If possible. Other moves are just stunt, and I don't use them. Again, I don't want to leave the impression I'm good at manipulation (catching the ring with the index after tossing it). Still, the stunts are extremely visual. But I won't do it as part of a magic trick. Concerning the teaching in the DVD, it's so easy to understand, although there is no talking. Only music and text. But unlike Circuit, there is a big zoom and big slow motion (very slow...) and multiple repetition and angle views, so it's very easy to understand exactly when to do the move and how. I think for $25 it's definitely worth it. For me it was very inspiring. It's sad that there is no conversation here or on Penguin, as if no one has purchased the DVD. Again, I highly recommend it. It's not as difficult as Circuit. I don't succeed with Circuit all the time, but my success rate with the Night Crawler move (index to ring finger) is something like 99%. It's just too easy. Now, what kind of ring do you need... Well, I find that using the very thick Odyssey ring (8mm thickness) is not practical for performing Circuit, but it's doable with Night Crawler, although I think it's easier with thin ring (e.g., 5mm or 6mm). I feel that it goes faster. As far as weight is concerned, I don't think it is an important factor of success. If you do it right, the ring will jump where you want. But again, consider that you should ideally use a thin (and/or lighter) ring rather than a thick (and/or heavier) one. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that with lighter ring, it jumps faster than using heavy ring. And if it jumps faster, it's more undetectable for spectators. As for using spectator's ring, no issues here. Even if the ring is smaller than your size (which is very likely, if you borrow a woman's ring), because the idea with such effect, is that you do not want the ring to pass through the knuckle. You want your knuckle to act like a "stopper" so the ring doesn't fall all the way down into your finger. Rather, the ring must sit on your knuckle (not sure if I'm clear, english is not my first language). That's why I think the Odyssey ring much less practical than the one used in my video, because the ring size is 9, and my size is 8 (of course, you know why I purchased size 9 because Odyssey is not practical unless the gimmick is one size bigger than yours). Because the size is so big, the ring doesn't sit on my knuckle but it passes through. Thus, I always have to join the fingers together or the ring may fall to the base of my finger. I will do a video review of Night Crawler and Odyssey and Circuit, altogether in a single video, but I think I will post this video in the Odyssey thread. |

I just bought it and posted my review on penguin magic. It's a good product but I thought it is overpriced, and I think reflex and divorce are much better.
