I really love doing Rob Thompson's beautiful effect Samoya. For me it is the perfect quick coin trick. I just wish I could find a way to make this a longer routine without it becoming too repetitive. Just curious if anyone else feels this way, and has anyone played around with this? I guess I just need a good kick to the head to spark my imagination.

Not to make it longer, but to make it different (as well as "repeatable" in the same set) check out Lance Pierce teaching Roger Klause's "Soleil et Lune" on this dvd - http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13570 (that effect alone is worth the price of the dvd if you have the coin set needed for Samoya.
I really wish there was a demo to show you if you don't know the routine but trust me, it is every bit as good as Samoya IMHO and I really like the "patter" that plays perfectly to the actions. As for the "mechanics" of the effect - it is almost the same. Same coin set, same type moves that take advantage of the sets characteristics... I really love BOTH effects

Thanks Poof-Daddy. I have heard a lot about that effect and will buy it for sure. I like the idea of using a "sun and moon" type of story line in my patter.

Jonathan Kamm added a sequence that really seems like a no brainer. The standard copper/silver transposition in the spectator's hand. This has become my go to coin routine. I have 2 presentations, 1 straight ahead, (adventures of the props) as Eugene calls it. The other uses a poem that has a romantic feel. No, I don't use it to pick up women....I often will use it with an older lady and they love it.

Hey pepka the only place that I found it is on his DVD The Unexpected Visitor Vol. 2. Of course I had to buy it. Should be here in a few days.

Doug's UV #2 also has a great Chop cup, 3T, and Okito box routine! Don't miss those.

I do a version of Samoya with a modified ending where the coins are examinable. I start out with the coins in an Osaka coin purse. Remove the coins with the coin purse in plain site. Perform Samoya, I holdout the gaff and the moon appears back into the purse. Do some coin vanishes then hand out coins to specs and watch them go crazy looking at the coins and purse. It frys!

Another extra phase I've done occasionally is after the transposition in the spectator's hand is to change the ungaffed coin to a jumbo coin. Plays very well.

Hey Poof-Daddy I did get it and I love it. Fidget really opened my eyes as to what is possible with this simple coin set. It does require the expanded] version like Samoya. It is a stand alone routine that includes a spellbound type of effect with a sucker ending but both coins are shown to be silver. One at a time the silver coins are rubbed and Very cleanly change to copper...love this sequence. It will be in my routine for sure. Then the coins are changed back to copper and silver. He then goes into a transpo with them, but ends it with two chinese coins. This is really a great routine with very clean displays. The only problem that I am having is that my set is in dollar sized coins and limits some of the movements for me. I am working around it though and am using bits and pieces of Doug's routine. The DVD for me is worth the price just for this effect, but there is some other really killer stuff on it. Thanks tm613 for the suggestion. Actually thank you all for the great suggestions! I can't believe how much magic you can get out of "2" coins. Fun stuff!

I grabbed a copy too and agree 100%. Wow, that is really making a longer routine and getting a ton of use out of the set. It really is an "eye opener" when it comes to thinking about routines. You could certainly do this at one point during a show and either of the other effects without seeming to "repeat" an effect. I think the other two, Samoya and Soleil Et Lune, are better suited for walk around or "table hopping" when it comes to time constraints. Yet, Fidget is modular enough to play with some of the ideas on it. This has been a very helpful thread.

It's also possible to do Samoya with the new Sucker Punch set.

If only for the simple reason that the red and blue chips are the same size as opposed to an English Penny and a US Half (or and silver or copper dollar size coin) being a tad off in circumference. It seems from the vids that you can make a C/S type chip with the one gaff. If that fits nicely into the ] then it could certainly be accomplished. All said and done though, Part of me hopes you can (since I would like to get a set if they make some minor improvements) but part of me also wants to keep routines like "Samoya", "Soliel Et Lune" and "Fidget" just for those of us that have the "special set" to do them with in order to not overexpose the effect or put it easily into some teenage YouTuber's "reveal list".

Samoya might be one of the most elegant routines I've had the pleasure of seeing. With that being said, what gaffed set is being used? Todd's UWC, a Slippery Sam which locks? Could someone PM a bit of clarity? I'd highly appreciate it as would any direction to Thompson DVDs or Mr. Neighbors' books? Cheers, Chris |

UWC will work. Sam not used.
Full answer can be found in Doug Brewer's replies in this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&start=0 I believe the Samoya DVD is out of print, but can be found on the used market. You can make a want to buy (WTB) post in the for sale section here after you reach 50 posts. David Neighbors is here on the Café. I'd contact him directly regarding his books.
