Do a Google and/or YouTube search for "Denny Haney".
In my opinion, you will see what you need to know. |

Denny started out doing a serious, Chavez-type act. You can read his bio on his website here:
http://www.dennymagicblog.dreamhosters.com/?page_id=9 He talks about how the act evolved to a comedy focus. His assistant Minh was instrumental in changing the act to include comedy. My earlier recommendation to watch other great comedy manipulation acts was not a suggestion to copy their routines or to steal their bits. I made that suggestion because studying the masters--when done properly and respectfully--is a way to find inspiration and grow. Lance Burton was inspired by watching and studying magicians like Channing Pollock. The Beatles were inspired by Elvis. Tennis champion Roger Federer was inspired by watching videos of Rod Laver. Bruce Lee developed jeet kune do by taking what he learned from his teacher in Hong Kong and adding techniques he learned from watching films of great Western boxers. Channing Pollock started out doing a Chavez-type manipulation act with cards, billiard balls, etc. The doves came later. There was a dove production taught in the Chavez course, but it wasn't the production that became Channing's trademark. No art evolves in a vacuum. Remember what Isaac Newton said in a letter to scientist Robert Hooke: -----quote----- If I have seen further than you it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants. -----unquote----- In addition to watching great acts on DVD, youtube, etc--read great books and magazines. Read Tarbell. Read Levent. Read McBride. Read Hass. Read Hay. Read Fitzkee. Read books on magic theory as well as books that teach tricks. Have sessions with other magicians whose opinions and advice you respect. And I don't necessarily mean only or even mainly at magic club meetings. You can learn a lot and be inspired by listening to other magicians who don't even do a manipulation act. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Music sets the mood.
It can be a match for happy or just the opposite. As far as happiness IMHO it is a by product of something else. To get psychological - if you change your feelings, thoughts and beliefs - your actions will change OR you could try smiling more. Harris Still too old to know it all
