Was hoping you extremely knowledgeable folks could help with an item that even has ME stumped, and I've owned just about one of everything. This is a tabletop (no clue how to post pics, but the description is very simple) that was attached to a mic stand base when I got it. It's wooden, but the top of the table consists of 2 pieces of flat sheet metal, the 2 sheets are separated by the tiniest gap. Coming off the underside is a cord, as in an electrical cord. It was run down the hollow center of the upright. My best guess is that somehow, somewhere, there was or is a prop that would activate when it was set on the table, completing the circuit between the 2 metal sides of the tabletop. Has anyone ever heard of or seen a prop that would operated like that? I honestly can't imagine a more dangerous way to operate a device. This came from an estate I bought. The previous owner was very elderly, and most of his pieces were quite old.

You probably have the device that it powered somewhere in the other tricks of the estate. I made and used something similar for my Milk to Lightbulb lamp, so I could bring out the lamp, put it on the table, reach under the shade and pretend to turn on the lamp while activating the power in the tabletop. When the milk vanished, the light went off immediately, thanks to a backstage helper pulling the plug. As long as you know what you have and how to use it safely, there are numerous ways to make use of an invisible source of electric power. Here's a photo of Wiz Kid Fred lighting up a real electric bulb in his "Michael Jackson" gloved hand as part of his electric act from 1983. It was a little more daring than having the power source hidden in a tabletop, but Fred was very careful and made sure he didn't shake anyone's hand while wired up!
