GigSalad just announced new fee structure. In the past the performer could decide who paid the 5% $15-20 min fee. You could even say "Split it" Most performers opt into paying the fees on these sites.
I was just curious if the prospective client will use the service if they are being charged a service fee? I am also a little confused on them doing the entire payment or if performers can still do the balance at gig. I wonder if tips would be less if it is all buttoned up through GigSalad before the gig even takes place? ----------------------------------------------------------- We have exciting things coming in 2017! Because of your great feedback, we’ve been hard at work making improvements to our platform. In early 2017, we’ll be launching a few of the most requested features that we hope will make it easier for clients to book you. Here’s what you’ll be seeing in the coming months: Guaranteed balance payments: Clients will pay deposits and remaining balances in one easy payment. This simplified booking process makes life easier for event planners and ensures all your funds will be delivered to you in your preferred payout method. Guaranteed cancellation policies: We’ll help protect you in the event of a cancellation by offering a selection of new cancellation policies. Want to ensure you receive the balance for a last-minute cancellation? Soon you’ll be able to. No more minimum fees: Minimum fees (currently $15 for paid members and $20 for free members) create a disproportionate structure for our members and a higher percentage fee for bookings under $300. Our updated platform will be more consistent and practical for all of our users. New booking fee rates: In addition to removing minimum fees and processing full balance payments, we’re restructuring how our booking fees are applied. Our new fees will align GigSalad with standard marketplace practices, which providers and consumers expect. Keep in mind, booking fees are only required when you've been booked. Responding to gig leads is always free. Here's how it will work: Pro and Featured members will have a 2.5% booking fee, which is lower than any marketplace competitor. Free members will have a 5% booking fee, which without minimums, will always be 5%. Clients will have a 4%-8% service fee, a sliding scale that offers lower fees for larger bookings and guarantees their events and associated payments. As always, 1-day payments with no fees: Not only will we be collecting deposits and guaranteeing your balance payments, we are committed to providing the easiest, fastest, and most convenient payment experience in the industry. All payouts will continue to be processed with zero fees and submitted to your receiving account in 1 business day. In the meantime, we’ll be working hard to make 2017 your most successful year yet. We'll send further updates by email as we get closer to launching these improvements next year. Peace, Love & Gigs! ♥ The GigSalad Team |

I've never booked a Gig Salad gig on Gig Salad... after the initial inquiry, I e-mail or phone the client directly.
I'll have to read the fine print to make sure this is allowed... |

I have never booked a gig through GS. I doubt I ever will. It's just not a good avenue for a bizarre performer like myself.

I never book the gigs I get from Gig Salad through their website either. They've gotten their greedy paws too deep into the business relationship between the performer and the client by charging absurd fees and making the whole hiring process more complicated than necessary by forcing themselves into the role of the middle man. I always use my own contracts and book the events outside the Gig Salad site.

No mean the site has never provided a lead that actually became a gig. I think it is not really suiting to my more bizarre style.

I just can't imagine that making it so easy for customers to price shop is a good thing for the performer. Why create a buyers market when you are a seller?

So if you offer a show for the lowest price you will get booked by those customers on Gig Salad. Some Gig Salad customers are searching for something unique, and don't necesarily know what they are looking for. If you stand out and appeal to their unique event, they will choose you no matter how much you cost. I've had decent luck with Gig Salad. If nothing else... Gig Salad and Gig Masters show up ️very high on SEO, so anyone searching will find them... You might as well be on the list that they see. |

Yes that is one theory. I am happy it works out for you.
If it is working that is all that matters.

I have received probably a hundred inquiries over about two years from Gig Salad. I have booked three gigs from it. About two months ago, I removed my profile because I was tired of getting requests who want me to travel 100 miles and think I'm going to charge $50 for a show.
As Danny Doyle and other mention, the clients on Gig Salad are price shoppers and Gig Salad has made it super easy to do that. The clients who use Gig Salad are people who think magicians are a commodity. Not who I want to work for. As much as magicians and other artists complain about Gig Salad, we are contributing to the problem by including a profile. If Gig Salad had two magician profiles in a large city, they would not be seen as a credible website. Instead, they have at least 20 magicians in a large city. That makes the customer think it is a good resource. This is part of the reason I removed my profile. If you think Gig Salad is a waste of time, I would encourage you to remove your profile. |

I have a FREE account on Gigsalad and have never booked a show through them. In the last six months I got 5 inquiries for birthday parties. I DON'T DO BIRTHDAY PARTIES and it's clearly stated in my listed information.
Today, I got an inquiry for one hour at an annual company party. I gave them my lowest price quote ($350.00) just to see if I can get a show from this site. I made the quote good for 72 hours. Within an hour of them seeing that I quoted them $350 they declined saying it was out of their budget. I cannot see paying $199 - $250 per year to be listed there. It just doesn't make sense from a business perspective. |

Gig Salad.......Their management is rude and they will cancel your membership without discussing it with you if you have even the slightest disagreement with them. Stay away from them. They're trouble and a rip off.
