Hi guys who had seen this trick (rope and silk), perhaps it is described in classic books about magic? I would be grateful for any links.
I love the magic & history of magic! My favorites magicians - Dai Vernon, Max Malini, Fielding West, Michael Finney, Jeff Hobson, Bob Sheets, Nick Lewin, Harry Murphy, Dick Oslund- great showmen of magic!

Not exactly the same, but it is a more elaborate version of Rice's Dis-Solvo.
http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Rice's%20Dis-solvo.htm Daniels' added the middle of the rope knot usually in magic called the Chinese Knot. |

The link opens for me, just click on it.
www.silkkingmagic.com Look for Dis-solvo, the name of the trick. This is a trick sold with paper instructions, a 24 inch silk, and the cord. |

Eugene...
You will find in Tarbell, Vol I, Lesson 18, page365, The Dissolving Single Knot. The knot "dissolves". I wrote up in my book, the handling for making the knot "dissolve" with a much better EFFECT than the two handlings suggested by Doc T. The Dissolving Knot (+ an additional single knot) is the basic knot(s) used in the Al Baker "Handkerchief through arm" on paae 385. I've used both the Dissolving single knot, and, the Al Baker Silk thru arm, since the mid '40s. Charlie Miller performs it on a Joe Stevens VHS (I think #17 or 18). The Baker penetration can be a silk thru rope or silk thru cane, or wand. Rice's "Dissolvo" is advertised in the link that Bill provided. (the link worked for me). Rice's "Encyclopedia of Silk Magic", Vol. II, page 365 provides the information and handling. Rice, op, cit Vol II, page 568, has "Snap Away Knot" (credited to Harlan Tarbell) Snap Away uses the girth hitch to tie the silk. Bill calls this hitch; "Chinese Knot). This is very possibly the name used by some magicians. although it's "new" to me, and, I've been teaching knot tying to Boy Scouts and B.S. Leaders for 35 years. I've been doing rope "stuff" since reading Ralph W. Hull's "15 Minutes With A Piece of Rope", in the mid '40s. The Snap Away might be what Paul Daniels used. I tried it, but couldn't get it to "function". It's possible that Martineau's art work is at fault. I hope this has been helpful.

Rice's Dis-Solvo can also be used for the silk through microphone stand if desired.

I liked the silk on the rope but I liked the sliding knot cut and restore on the long horizontal rope even better. Is there a reference for it?

Hi Dick. I would love to find Paul Daniels silk on rope explanation

Paul Daniels did not expose the magic he presented on his programs to the magic society or the general public. If it was, you would find it on Ebay and Amazon, even today.

I could not pull up the link that Eugene posted in the OP.
Rices DISSOLVO is described on page 562 in his Encyclopedia of Silk Magic. So, sorry that I can't contribute more.

It looks like the Jay Bee knot. One description found in the Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks, p63.
