So I'm on Spring Break and finally able to dedicate time to painting the inside of the house. It's Day 3 and getting old. Fleetwood Mac's Dreams is playing when an unexpected parcel arrives that breaks my concentration from the second cutting in of the paint on ceiling of the kitchen. The courier has a package that I must personally accept. The break from painting feels good as I make some space on our dining room table and open up a most peculiar package. There's no return address, and the post mark was smudged so I cannot make out from where it was shipped, although the stamp on it is from the USA. The contents include a set of cards, an old leather and gold book cover, and a newspaper clipping. The substantial thickness, age, and feel of the cards are reminiscent of my Elite Cuss Cards, although these are a bit shorter. They feel supple and old, like leather that has seen love over decades of use. Has anyone seen these before?

Have not seen these before, however I think you're a marked man now.....marked by possibly Chris of AM & his remake/rebirth of his AA's.......& by way of a forwarding spellcaster known as Vic..........
If my suspicions are correct, I am seeing something very mysteriously awesome with great potential of its being....... |

Good God David. Run! Run! Run!
Or embrace that you have something obviously very special, and please tell us more about it. And then Run! Run! Run!
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Here's what the clipping has on it:
Mystery as Norwich Occultist’s Antiquities Found in New Zealand A box of English occult-related antiquities has been discovered more than 11,000 miles away. The items, dating from the 1950s to the 17th century, were found in Whakatane, New Zealand, earlier this month. They appear to have belonged to a Julian Velasco, of Norwich. Norwich records reveal that Velasco died in June of 1953. It is unclear how they ended up so far away from home, or why they were left in an unused room at the back of an antique furniture store. Allen Michaels, who made the discovery, said he had hoped to reunite the 70-year-old box with a family member. Michaels said he searched the Whakatane phone book to find anyone with the same surname but had been unsuccessful. After a more thorough search, it was discovered that both the box and owner originated in Norwich. Michaels added: “I have got no connection to Norwich. I work in a shop in Whakatane and we deal in second-hand furniture. The box was at the back of a room that used to be the delivery room, but hasn’t been used for many years, and the box was just in there.” The box contains various papers penned by Velasco, dated near his death. The papers all pertain to occult themes, which was a popular movement at the time spurred on by infamous personalities such as Aleister Crowley. Also in the box, numerous copies of a deck of divination cards were found. Based on sketches and the presence of older cards the sketches appear to be based on, which Michaels says date from the late 17th century, Michaels believes Velasco printed these cards with intent to distribute shortly before his death. “I don’t really know how they turned up here,” Michaels said. “They’re someone’s history, though, so I’m not going to throw them away.” Michaels’ plans for the Velasco-printed decks of divination cards are simple. “I’m going to sell the things,” he said. “This fella wanted them out there. Now they will be.” As for the few older, antiquated decks Velasco used for inspiration? Michaels says they won’t be near an auctioneer’s gavel as one would expect. “They’re creepy, and I want to be rid of them. I’m just going to give them away.” Michaels intends to further examine the contents of the box to see if he can garner any more clues about their origin or purpose. -------- Back to painting... |
