Here's a link to a downloadable busker's rights card that could be useful when interacting with law enforcement or private security

Hey 'Magic Man',
thanks for posting the article.
I took the time and read it.

(I especially love the part about Allen Ginsberg!)

yeah, 1st Amendment and all,..
it never,...NEVER comes down to,
"...somebody wanting to say something that someone else doesn't want to hear."
This is simply never the case.

It comes down to:
1.)Too loud.

2.)Blocking passage.

3.)Soliciting for moneys.

When we stop hiding behind the mask of the 1st Amendment,
and begin thinking about WHY peoples are REALLY disturbed,...
then,
we can begin finding solutions.

Understanding and acknowledging the problems.
,..the first step in resolving them.

wish you well,
gallagher

Does anyone have experience using the card? If so, how was it received?

I've used it a few times. Only one of those times did I go to jail!
It definitely got a cop to lighten up on me one time before. His supervisor still told me I would go to jail if I didn't leave, but the initial cop called his supervisor because of the card; not knowing what to do. He was like, all of this makes perfect sense.

I must once again disagree.

Amplifiers are not the major problem you seem to believe they are. Inconsiderate, self aggrandizing performers are the problem. No matter where they're found or what they use.

Tools are tools. Some use them wisely and some don't.

I never blocked a thoroughfare in San Antonio, yet, they shut me down. Why? Because I didn't fit in with what the city council thought aprapo for the setting. Freedom of Speech should be an especially big deal across from the Alamo of all places, but due to events, apparently not.

"Soliciting Money's" as you say, that again is related to speech, and the freedom thereof. "Put your money where your mouth is" readily comes to mind as an illustrative example. Citizens United took care of that.

Maybe you've been in Germany too long; glommed onto their Socialist ways, and forgot what makes America exceptional.

Now there's a statement that could be debated if I've ever seen one.

Ok...

Let the Games begin

(I'd rather engage the sometimes incoherent gallagher on the matter)

Hey Eric,
i'm still here,
..but I'm on the run,
..in three directions.
in the moment.

Things look calmer the coming weekend.

Give me a moment to catch my breaths,
..and thoughts.

thanks,

öK.
Put up your dukes!

👊 👊
{does this guy have TWO right hands?
,..i guess that can only mean ONE thing(!)
,..i'm 'Right'. 😊 }

Eric, thanks for taking the time to read, 'think about', and respond to my thoughts.
I appreciate it.

I think we're 'disagree-ing' over the something we both agree on.

Folks are getting shut down,
because they are too loud.

Either with Amplification,
or Bucket Drums,
or Bag Pipes in trio,...
1st Amendments aren't being oppressed.

Noise Regulations are being enforced,
..and broken.

As to Soliciting.
I think some (many) have gotten to the point
of agressive agravation.

Streets and Pitches are being turned into Carnaval lots.
This is why Laws and Regulations are being written,
..and unfortunatly needed.

The 1st Amendment?
I do not believe,
in the United States,
anyone,
in the passed 40 years,
has been stopped,....
while Busking,
for expression of a particular thought.
I simply do not believe it.

, . . . . . . . . ö. . . . . . . . ! . . . . . .

"..been in Germany too long; glommed into their Socialists ways..."

I wish I was as social concsious,
as most Germans,
...as most Europeans.
It's a trait I really admire.

As a Street Performer, however,
I find that I've never become a thread, in the fabric,
of the culture,
I'm playing in.

Strange.
The traveling and moving,...
the dipping in between
rain clouds,
other Performers,
city ordanence,
and 'the cheapest diesel prices' 😕;
has kept me in the fringe.

I seem to be always trying to stay one step ahead,..
And the 'society',
..one step away.

I think this is,
'the curse of traveler'.

Someone once told me,
"You will never be part of our society,
until you're buried,
in our cemetary."

As far as "America being exceptional",
I think this is simply a statement of näivity and in-experience.

I've found:
any place where folks can express themselves,
with the ballot,..
and their feet(!),
are 'pretty good places'..

One 'exceptional'?,.....naaa.

Producing a red silk from a bare hand,
in Poland, the Ukraine, Finnland, Italy, Mexico,
Canada,
Egypt,....Iran(!),
Germany,
...or the U.S.,..
When folks are relaxed,
quiet,
calm,
....not threatened
(by the thought of,.."how much is this going to cost me?,..!)
,..the reaction is ALWAYS the same.

A smile.
A laugh.
An applause.
,...a coin in the Hat.

I've NEVER found an exception.
..."an exceptional."

Embarrassingly, though;
with my scares of experience;
i still find myself in doubt,
at times(!).
,...at the end of the day,
I kick myself.

'Fear'? 'Stupidity'? 'WISDOM'?,...?

,..i blame it on my Youth(!). ☺️
Näivity.
And In-experience.

Any way.
Thanks for reading.
I'd appreciate any thought.
