That is Jeff Sheridan. He has a series of DVDs out that teaches all of this.
See his three DVD set "The Sheridan Course in Card Manipulation" found at most magic dealers including Penguin Magic: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/2131 Or maybe just try Volume 2 of his 4 DVD set "Genius at Work" (although the entire set is well worth having and studying). Again available via Penguin Magic: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/671 The DVDs are often available on the second hand market.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

Thanks.
Please also advice how do I check if I am practicing right. For example, I can easily vanish a card using back palm but sometimes (1 time out of 5 times) a tiny bit of card is visible above the pinky. Please also advice how to improve speed. As I increase speed, the accuracy is decreased. Is it just a matter of practice? Thanks for your time and help. Regards |

The "tiny bit of card... visible above the pinky" is normal, as Lewis Ganson pointed out in his book _Card Magic by Manipulation_ (which itself was excerpted from Ganson's larger book _Routined Manipulations Finale_). The solution, as Ganson points out, is to keep the hand in motion during the production until a card or fan is produced, and then the single card or the fan can be used to c---r the "tiny bit of card is visible above the pinky."
If you are on facebook, I invite you to apply to join the closed group Routined Manipulations where you might be able to get additional advice from the nearly 300 members who contribute to the discussions there. (It's a closed group, but since you are already approved for membership here on The Magic Café, your application should be approved with no problem. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Back in the late '40s and early '50s, I did "that stuff". The magicians in Ring 103 (Norfolk VA, where Sonny is) would "oooh and ahh"!
Sonny, and Robert are giving you the "real work"!

As Robert said, keeping the hand in motion when it is "empty" is important, as is the pause to allow the audience time to register and appreciate each card's magical appearance.
Some card manipulators, like Shimada at the 5:24 spot in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew5o6n7kDOU&t=352s start out pausing as each card appears (sometimes as each third card appears). But at the end of the card manip routine the pace of the productions picks up. At the 4:08 spot of this Channning Pollock performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khQT5HP3zfU Channing also speeds up the pace of each card's appearance. At the 0:42 spot of Mahka Tendo's performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqRqNTP9seM he starts out pausing after each card appears, but then a few seconds later single cards start appearing _very_ rapidly. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Your best source would be the Card Manipulation DVD series by Jeff McBride.
Also on the issue of the corner of the card above the finger you should use cards with a all-over back design like a Bee or Steamboat 999 in red. The lack of a white border will help mask the card, but as said a little corner is normal especially when several cards are in BP position at the same time. Don't make the mistake speed is everything, you want to be fluid and practice angles and sight lines. Fast jerky motions invites too much attention to the places where you want it least. The best practice method is to practice with a mirror and a video camera at the same time in different angles. Watch what you recorded make adjustments and do it again from other angles. This gives you time and to see what your audience sees and correct as needed. Time and practice will produce results, don't rush make sure your perfect your moves and stick to a routine.
