There are plenty of folks here that will say you're right. Facebook is now in the Top 10 most valuable companies on the S&P. They're valued around $350 billion dollars. Deep down you know that's not due to people paying to see cat pictures. |

Probably true, but they are having growing pains and are having competition coming at them.
Not making your point less true just saying.

What do you mean by growing pains? Are you referring to Facebook?
Also, who is Facebook's competition that is coming at them? |

Zucks and his team are in completely uncharted territory. There is no blue print for success where they are. So they can ultimately be their own worst enemy if they misstep. Just my opinion on that and to that end, Danny isn't wrong. -Robert |

Also, who is Facebook's competition that is coming at them? "Snapchat" is where many younger people have turned for social media. |

I can’t see that many, other than the very young, leaving Facebook anytime soon. Most have settled there and would hate having to start over someplace else. Besides the mind can only take so much new technology at a time.
I compare Facebook to the huge phone books we used to have a few years ago. If I wanted to know something about a business I would look to see what type ad they had in the yellow pages. Today I see what they have on Google and Facebook. Reminds me of how I used to look in the phonebook under magic and magicians in every city I visited, never really called any but was always curious to see what that city offered. I loved going through the yellow pages looking at business ads of all kinds so much that my wife would tell her out of town friends to save me one. One of my best Christmas presents was a phonebook. LOL Of course I could be wrong, I remember telling folks facebook would never out do myspace. Tom

They all want to be the next big thing and in tech arenas it can and often does come from nowhere. Facebook will probably never go away. They will probably never be irrelevant. But as you mention competition is fierce. Even for the big dog. Actually ESPECIALLY for the big dog. MySpace can really help for how to lose that top spot. Heck they lost it to Facebook didn't they?

Here's the real explanation, which is confirmed by the posts above: When I posted, both Robert and Cafécheckers had responded. When I saw their posts, I responded back with a thank you. You hadn't answered yet, when I happened to be back on my computer. I DID appreciate your statements about Facebook, and showed you that by engaging you with questions about the very thing you posted on. It would have been weird to thank you for your answer before you answered it! I hope you can see that I didn't complain about civility. That's just how you saw my words. I did try to be direct. I was not only civil, but friendly and responsive to your magic-related post. Anything you think beyond that is out of my control. But at least I've given you a better glimpse into YOUR complaint about me! Since this is NOT about Robert Marsi's book or Facebook or gigs, I won't engage you further in this thread. There's a lot cooler stuff to do and read! And thank you for your insights about Facebook. |

You backpeddle so well.
A big percentage of your posts are nothing but attacks. Be civil, others will to.

They were pushing towards aging up to the 40-45 demo solidly when that happened. They've now topped out around 13-35. As for FBs long term viability, they're not going away. The two most important stocks one can invest in for long term growth (my opinion only) are Facebook and Amazon. Now, with that said, as a marketer I just want to make money. I'm not loyal to any of the platforms. If Instagram died tomorrow I would only want to know where the attention went. PS: Keep an eye on Anchor. It could be the next one to pop. Audio is starting to make a run. Still needs to work out some kinks though. |

In that thread there was also content that should cause us all to pause and consider how well social media strategies align with OUR business. Here is one of Walter's posts to consider: "Robert I'm not dismissing it outright, they have a purpose and value, but like you said, I find their value relatively low when compared to other channels of communication in a b2b market for professional services. See I believe social media platforms are supports to branding, but only after a strong brand is established. Prior to that, social media efforts reduce or have minimal impact to credibility. Furthermore, most people are not professionals and don't have the branding theming or consistency of image to convey across social media and inadvertently undermine branding efforts." |
