What was the first book that you read that got you into magic, my was the Amateur Magician's Handbook

I read the Joseph Leeming books in the children's section of the library when I was a kid, but I got an adult library card when I saw that Professional Magic Made Easy by Bruce Elliott was on the shelves there.

I was into magic before I read it, but the first book I really studied was Royal Road to Card Magic. I spent 8 months reading and practicing what was in that book and I really think it helped me figure out how to properly learn from books.

Now you see it, now you don't, by Bill Tarr.

The second was AMH.

Scarne On Card Tricks.

I must have been around 12 years old. I can still remember the excitement of learning new "miracles" in the solitude of my bedroom. Just me, a deck of cards, and the book. Hours seemed like mere minutes, as I eagerly devoured chapter after chapter. In fact, I still have that book! Pencil marks next to the tricks in the Table of Contents indicate my favorites. The darker the tick mark, the better the trick. But now, the book represents more than just tricks to me. Forty five years later it represents that joyful and innocent period of my youth. I have accumulated dozens of magic books since then, but the sight, feel, and smell of that one book instantaneously connects me to a different time and a different me. Ah... the joy of Magic!

That's funny. Around the age of 12 I was reading Scarne's new complete guide to gambling.
I was going to be a casino owner.

Abbott's Magic Catalog. I got into magic by finding Abbott's Magic shop while on a fishing trip with my family. I bought 3 tricks and a catalog.

I came to be doing card work through the gambling world but the book Our Magic got interested in the art.

HOUDINI His Life And Art by The Amazing Randi & Bert Randolph Sugar. Someone gave it as a gift to my father in 1976, he brought home and never got it back, I don't think he ever read it! I lost that original copy, but several years ago I purchased it again on the second hand market.

That book still holds great memories for me!
