Hello all,
I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of this particular effect. I've been searching for it for ages but simply cannot find it. I have an inkling that it is similar to the brain**ve deck but Its not exactly the same. Essentially, you tell a spectator that you have drawn an X on the back of one card. You then display a fan of cards snd ask them to point to the card they think has the X. Then you turn that card over and reveal that the card they selected does not have an X but all the other ones do. Here is a link to the performance https://youtu.be/CC4nHlqspSk (it starts at 24 second in). Many thanks O |

I think there are multiple presentations for this effect and several methods that can be used.
Jay Sankey has one called RESISTANCE IS FUTILE on 22 Blows to the Head where he fans 12 Jacks and 1 Queen and says he wants you to resist him from psychically influencing you to touch the odd card. Of course you don't touch the Queen thinking it is the odd card, but it turns out the card you touch is the only red backed card with all the others having blue backed. Brain**ve is one way. Although it is a little hard to see exactly what he does in the video I think he is using the method that Sankey uses. |

This guy was on Chris ramsays channel under bad magic. He is technically skilled but tends to steam roll his spectators. This wasn't as bad as the other clips I saw though. People trying to engage and he just ignored them. It was hard to watch. This was better but I still feel like he's doing way too much too fast. He is very skilled though.

That being said, he is really talented and I have loads of respect for him since he does genuine magic to real people and isn't one of those YouTubers who just uploads camera tricks. |

Wowwwwwww, just found this. That is me. First off that is an original effect with the Xs. I got the idea from a Max Maven effect in his color series books. Been doing it for over 15 years and I have never released it and to be honest don't really want to.
Yes Chris Ramsay ripped me apart on a video. Here are some things to consider- I am a full time professional magician and have been performing at the highest end corporate, private, and celebrity parties all over the world for over 20 years. Please check out my website- www.matthewfurman.com. Can Ramsay be right and all these people be wrong? I don't think so. I have never met Chris Ramsay, he knows nothing about me, and from what I have seen in his videos he is nothing more than a hobbiest card magician who gives away magic secrets to a HUGE YouTube following. Apparently on YouTube, which I am new to, magicians are being judged based on their subscriber count. I hope everyone in the magic Café is smart enough to judge a magician based on his performance. Ramsay is way out of his league to judge me as a magician, and to be honest James F, I suspect you are too. In Ramsay's "Street Magic" videos, which there are less than 10 out of almost 200 videos he has, he is doing 4 minute card tricks and D'Lites (what else can I say?) In the rest of his videos he talks and talks and talks and exposes and exposes and exposes. As for my style, I do move quickly, and it works. Nobody cares about long presentations or stories. Just do the tricks! James F how can you not see that the spectators are completely blown away in the above video? Do you see their reactions? Do you think they walked away saying, if only he moved a little slower? The above video should be a lesson to you as a magician. I am confident saying this because this is what I successfully do for a living. I will rehash another point I discussed in this video- https://youtu.be/TVm-DjZiU6k Everyone reacts differently when they are mind blown. In the video Ramsay ripped apart that lady was completely blown away. She said Wowwww multiple times and said she was speechless. She wasn't kidding. What else are you looking for from your spectators? She is a conservative Eastern European lady who was at work. You think she is going to jump up and down and go crazy screaming? And if you really aren't sure check out the consistent reactions I get in the rest of my over 100 videos. Btw thank you oweosc12. |

I didn't say they weren't blown away. What I DID say was 1) you are a very skilled card handler and 2) you tend to steam roll your spectators. I stand by my claims. It's not meant as an insult. I didn't say you were bad or unskilled. I just made an honest judgment. If you disagree, that's fine. Everyone has their own performance style.
And you don't know me or my ability level. And honestly, it has nothing to do with what I said. |

Also, I am not here to defend ramsay, but he was a full time gig magician. He doesn't give away anything on his channel that he shouldn't. In fact, most of the time it's very simple tricks. I think he's a pretty skilled card guy myself. But again, that really isn't the issue. We are talking about your performance. And I'm glad you have the balls yo post yours online. That's awesome. It's much easier to sit on the sidelines and critique. I didn't mean to come off attacking you. I simply gave an opinion.

Thank you slowdini. Well said. Not sure why Chris Ramsay feels it is ok to expose EVERYTHING and why he thinks he should put down other magicians. I posted a new video today about doing street magic and getting rejected- https://youtu.be/1_jMEUsXFN8
If you watch the video I am out there getting rejected and showing exactly what I do in real time for real people with real reactions. Someone commented on my page that Chris Ramsay made a video on it. So I checked it out. It is a 10 minute video of him talking and talking and talking. Not one in field clip. Not one interaction with a spectator. Not one rejection. This is how I see it- if you had to get open heart surgery, would you want to be operated on by the guy who has done thousands of surgeries or the guy who has read every book on it but never operated?? |

If you want to discuss street magic rejections, you should have experience being out there getting rejected. Same as if you want to do open heart surgery.

I'm still confused. Ramsay performs all the time from what I can see. He actually has posted at least 2 videos of him messing up. One was on live tv and the other was street magic. So I'm not really following here. Also, he reveals almost nothing on his channel. Compared to the exposure channels that exist, I think it's not comparable at all.
Sure, maybe putting down other magicians on YouTube isn't cool. I'll give you that. It's mean and hurtful to those people. So I'm with you guys on that. But I think your other criticisms are way off base. |

And from watching the other videos of you Matt, you are awesome! Love seeing your skills. And Loved seeing you get "rejected". Well, I didn't "love" that, but am very impressed how you put that on there and greatly appreciate it. It shows you are the real deal, and will definitely help others that are afraid of performing on the streets because of the fear of rejection. I am one of them! Thank you for putting that together and sharing it. I live in MD and venture up to NY from time to time. I hope to see you someday on the streets so I can see you in person. You will have to reject me, because I will stick around and watch you perform! LOL For that "X" effect. You could definitely release it. You could sell that very well if packaged and marketed well. BUT, I totally understand you don't want to. And of course you would get bashed for "fill in the blank". Keep the Magic Going! Mike |

Imo Ramsey is a hobbiest (non worker) and Furman is unlikable. but that's just my opinion.
