Hi All,
I saw somebody perform this yesterday. I know I have this trick in one of my books or DVDs but can't remember where. I liked it so much when I saw it that I would like to learn it again. Does anybody know the name or where (which book or DVD) it came from? The effect is that the deck is split in two halves, the spectator can take any number of cards and shuffle then face up in the other face down half, then cut the deck and reverse the block, shuffle it in again and finally shuffle the remainder in the deck as well. The magician then reveals a prediction saying how many cards are face up and how many of them are red, and then all the black cards turn out to be spades. BW, Bas |

Oh, except that it is impromptu - any deck, any time.

Sounds like a variation of Shuffle Bored. The version I am familiar with is by Simon Aronson

Yes, this is Aronson's Shuffle-bored. (Harry's routine is a variation of Simon's.)
It can be found in his book, Bound to Please. |

Yes; it is a variation of Shuffleboard: To quote myself from the first paragraph of my write-up of The Equalizer, from Trend Setters and then in that section of Lorayne: The Classic Collection, Vol. 3:
"My thinking began with Simon Aronson's fine routine, Shuffleboard. ... Simon's application of the principle is unique. ... For my purposes, I needed it to be entirely impromptu..." And etc.

Paul Green also has a version called "Jepordy" on his "In the Trenches" DVD.

To me the best version of something like this is Predeckability by Aldo Colombini. Not that much impromptu though, but much less convoluted and more clean/logical/impossible looking.

This is another take on the effect that Dan White performed on The Tonight Show. Not sure if his version is published somewhere, but I worked out the handling and think this variation looks very fair.
Adds a shuffle at the beginning, which works just fine if you know how to s***k the deck properly for it to work, even with a slightly imperfect shuffle it works with no issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9KuWxhSIrs |
