Hi All: I was in our local Barnes and Noble book store last Saturday and purchased right off the shelf "Show Them Jesus- Teaching the Gospel to Kids" by Jack Klumpenhower. This 214 page book was published in 2014 by www.newgrowthpress.com and I assume it is widely available. This book is a "must read" for anyone who teaches Sunday School kids, VBS, Children's Church or does Gospel magic for children.
This book is written by a lay Bible teacher and children's ministry curriculum writer with more than 30 years of practical experience. In the back of the book is a helpful index of Bible lessons discussed- 35 of them. The interactive "report card" illustration in Chapter 2 is worth the price of the book alone. "Show Them Jesus" lists out at at a very reasonable $19.99 but is can be obtained for less after coupons, B&N membership discount, other online price cuts that are available, etc.. www.CBD.com sells this book for only $13.49 for example. "Show Them Jesus" had an immediate impact on me- even in how I did my regular Sunday School presentation just yesterday morning at children's church. The premise of this excellent reference book is the author shows us exactly how to "put the Gospel front and center" in our presentations/teaching moments. It is an A+++++ rating from me (e.g. I can't go any higher in this review). I think you will find this book an extremely helpful general approach of what we should be aiming for in our planning out/routining our "Gospel magic" programs for kids. Even though this is not a Gospel magic book, "Show Them Jesus" is what I am hoping is the main message/point of every program I do... I think all FCMers who do kid shows (especially in church settings) might want to take a look at it. |

As a sidebar to the above, one could probably devise/use a "coloring book" principle (or instead use a multi-pocketed large envelope) to make up a notebook of "grade" sheets showing all various grades: First, an assortment of grades (Bs, C+s, A-s), then going to all F grades, then to all blank grades, then finally to all A+ grades--- this would magically illustrate "The God Report Card" story idea shared in detail in Chapter 2 of "Show Them Jesus."

The book is on sale on Amazon right now for $1.59 for the Kindle edition. New Growth Press focuses on counseling materials that are strong in Gospel orientation. Thank you, MagicBus, for alerting to this helpful book.
