Ah, good, I thought I was being thick for a moment. As when I've used these types of decks, I don't tend to spread them in my hands. And IF I do its from hand to hand, not in a fan. I do reverse fans in my right hand to do the blank deck thing, which is great for that purpose, not so much for showing all the cards to be different

What's with having to reverse the deck when you receive it? Probably being dumb but couldn't they have just sold it set up correctly?

So I took a chance on the 52-to-1 and mastermind after all the solid advice (thanks Gaz et al). Can confirm 52-to-1 works fine for us lefties. Haven't played with the mastermind much yet but guessing it's similar.
Problem I'm having is accidentally messing up the deck at every possible opportunity. Because I'm a complete pillock, basically. But all I have to reset are the video instructions. Fine at the moment but not sure they'll be all that much use when we're back in the real world and can't check a video at every opportunity. Does anyone have/know of a PDF/crib for this deck to help reset? It REALLY should have come with one. I suppose you can make your own up from the vid, but the nature of the deck would make that quite a hassle. |

Greetings. Long time Café voyeur. 1st post! I'd really appreciate some advice. I have been closing my parlour show with the 52 to 1 deck. It is an awesome effect and I'm loving performing it. Twice now I've had a spectator comment that they have seen their card twice. I initially used a wide spread of the cards for the selection. I changed to a more compact spread and used all the psychological motivation I could muster without becoming too suspicious to "briefly look at the deck" and "just remember the 1st card you see". So I'm wondering if anyone has encountered a similar issue and if their is anything that I am missing that I can do to prevent this happening? I have managed the spectators comments in performance to the extent that the rest of the spectators would not remember the comment, but it obviously lessens the impact of the effect to the spectator who has seen a duplicate of her chosen card. Many thanks in advance for comments and suggestions.

Budgeee, I don’t think what you mentioned is completely preventible. That is a reason not to close with this trick. It’s amazing but not foolproof. I will also say I don’t leave the deck down for very long. I give the instructions, spread and as I’m asking “got one?” I’m closing the spread, I don’t wait for them to say yes. Pretty much everyone has seen a card to remember even if they were planning to browse further.

Xcath1. Thank you for your practical advice. I'm excited to try the quick spread selection process you describe. It does make sense. Your comment re using 52 to 1 as a closer has got me thinking!!! Thank you again for the speedy reply.

You are welcome. That is what works for me anyway. I purchased this trick years ago from Wayne Fox at a convention and that is kind of how he did it. Great trick.

I perform close-up most of the time, therefore I won't spread but rather fan the cards. The advantage of this is, if I close the fan the first time, I'm immediately ready to fan again forcing the spectator his card.
