Does anyone have a recommendation for a "good" pen or marker to "mark" the back of Blue backed Bicycle cards ? I just need to fill in a small spot and need an ink that is close in color to standard Bicycle blue

Blue Sharpie has always worked for me.

Sharpie also makes a white paint pen that works very well. It dries flat (no bumps) and is very durable.

You should contact Bob Farmer.
In his last release, The Bammo Tarodiction Toolbox, you may find exactly what you're looking for. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......c=643266 |

Thanks everyone. My red Sharpies are are a bit darker that my red backed decks, but Ill try a blue Sharpie. I also like the idea of a white sharpie, will definitely try that. And... Ill look further into Bob Farmers Toolbox

Tip: When the Sharpie ink is dry enough not to smear, rub the mark with your finger or thumb to reduce the sheen of the ink.

Good tip Tim. The blue Sharpie color is a great match but the sheen can look purplish in some lighting conditions/angles.

There are several different white sharpies. They can be water base, oil base... I LOVE the gold oil base as well as the black oil base for signed card effects. It really "POPS" on the front and back of red, blue and black back bikes (and my preferred Phoenix brand). They do however take longer to dry enough to replace in the deck without accidental transfer (and as a side note, accidental transfer can be a good thin is some situations).
I have used the white oil based sharpie and really like it too. These markers take a bit of getting used to though. Experiment and practice a lot before putting it into a performance. They work similar to one of those "Tide Stain Pens" there is a fairly hard tip that you must push in and out a few times to get the ink/paint to saturate the tip. Then you are ready to rock.

I've used PrismaColor markers for years. Good matches to both blue and red bikes. You can find them at art supply stores and well-stocked office supply places on occasion.

Someone mentioned Bob Farmer. Many years ago he published a cool marking system in Magic Magazine.....'96 or '97 called Blob-o-vision. Works great on Blue bikes, no pen needed....but you will need an exacto knife.

Has anyone found a good place to mark bicycle cards to create a one way back design to work alongside of another marking system?

Look up Doug Dyment’s Bike Marks. I use the pens identified there for all my marking. I use a variation of his marking system too.

In the PM Card Mark System, Pete McCabe recommends using the NAVY blue Sharpie pen. This is different than the regular blue Sharpie pen and you may have to search for it. I think I found it at Office Depot.

All markers and sharpies I have used come off slowly with use. I suggest an exacto knife. See above.

Markers and Sharpies also have the disadvantage that they tend to exhibit "off-colour smearing" when viewed from certain angles, under particular lighting conditions.
The preferred solution is to use proper drawing inks (such as those from Koh-I-Noor), available at artist supply stores. As for using pre-printed commercial decks, I have never found this an acceptable solution (though it is certainly the convenient one). Marking my own means that: 1. I needn't worry about my chosen system suddenly becoming unavailable. 2. I'm able to perform with an easily recognized, unsuspicious back design. 3. I've addressed the oft-posited situation of being required to come up with a show "from scratch", assuming that my luggage has been lost, stolen, or whatever.
