Faro shuffle fanatics unite!
I have 3 review copies of my upcoming ebook called "In Between". The ebook covers: - the updated handling of the original trick, first published in 2012 - the "supercharged" version which fooled some of the most knowledgeable magicians - a "light" version (with a surprise) - crediting that "is beyond the call in completeness" This is how the original effect looks like: The spectator picks two cards from the deck. Using these two selections, he is then asked to create a third one, but only in his mind. One card will represent the suit, the other card will represent the value. the spectator then buries the original two selections anywhere in the deck, face-up, while the performer has his back turned. the performer takes the deck back, executes one shuffle and spreads the deck. Sandwiched between the two face-up selections is one face down card; the spectator's thought of card, a card that only he could know the identity of. Pretty cool, right? The "supercharged" version is even more impossible! Please remember that this trick requires the ability to execute the In-The-Hands Faro shuffle. PM me if you're able to post an honest review on the Café and I'll be in touch with the first lucky three! Best, Mike |

I can't edit the original post, so let me mention one important thing that's missing in the effect description:
The spectator picks two cards from the deck (no force!). Mike |

I’ve had the pleasure to receive a review copy of Mike’s effect: In Between.
It’s a PDF of 33 pages that describes Mike’s original In Between effect and explores variations and enhancements. The writing style is light and engaging and the descriptions of the effects are very clear. In Between is fundamentally a sandwich effect, but one that looks incredible to a lay audience and will fool magicians not conversant with the method. First effect In Between A spectator freely selects two cards from anywhere in the deck and then mentally combines them (suit + value) to form a third card. The selections are then buried face up in the deck by the spectator while the performer has his back turned. The performer performs a single shuffle and the thought-of-card appears sandwiched between the face-up selections. This is a very strong effect as the pair of cards is picked out freely from anywhere in the deck, the spectator can form two possible cards from the pair depending on how they combine the selections and finally the cards are buried by the spectator themselves. At no point during this sequence are the selections shown to the performer. There’s some very light fishing (actually one single question about the thought-of card colour) in this version, but it really is not detrimental to the effect impact. I believe that most magicians will realise that this effect is not impromptu, but fortunately the required s***k is far from being esoteric and is easy to get into for faroers. Second effect: Supercharged In Between This effect is similar to the previous one, but two jokers are used to sandwich the made-up card and there’s no fishing at all. You can optionally follow up this effect with a second phase that helps to clean up the deck. This is definitely a magician fooler as well as a pleaser for regular people. Third effect Supercharged In Between Light This is my personal favourite as it requires no setup and it can pack nearly as much punch as the one above. Obviously the handling will not be as hands off, which is one of the strengths of the two previous effects, but for lay people the impact will hardly be diminished. I suspect that magicians will be able to reconstruct part of this effect though, whereas the first two effects are unlikely to be back-tracked. I have ever so slightly modified the presentation and handling to suit me, and performed it a couple of times for friends. It got a strong reaction. Conclusion There is a plethora of faro sandwich effects out there and some of them are very simple and effective. So why would you want to add a new one? And one that relies on a s***k in its full version, at that. Well, if you’re looking for an effect with a twist, nearly completely hands off and unfathomable to your audience, this is it. |

Thank you, Claudio! I'm happy that you liked it!
The ebook is finally done and will be available very soon! --- "Bravo! Your original "In Between" is just marvelous, but the "supercharged" version would have, without question, thoroughly fooled the pants off me if you had simply performed it for me." -- Jack Carpenter "What Jack Carpenter said!" -- Tomas Blomberg Not only this routine (and its variations) will badly fool people, but you will also badly fool yourself the 1st time you do it. Welcome to the very clever magic of Michal Kociolek." -- Jean-Jacques Sanvert "My seething hatred for Michal's genius can be best explained by the contents within these pages. This trick is just way too clever - you will fool yourself doing it the first time, and actually every time after that as well." -- Harapan Santoso Ong "Michal Kociolek specializes in incredibly clever stacked deck effects which always possess methods of labyrinthian beauty. His manuscript, In Between, is in this line, and features several versions of a very unique effect: a card merely thought of appears sandwiched between two other cards." -- Bob Farmer Mike |

I also receives a copy to review and it's very good. I am a big fan of the original effect and I told Mike via PM that the improved version is a nice improvement but I wasn't sure if I actually liked it more but it is some great thinking on Mike's behalf. Very strong effect and would definitely recommend it if you like the faro.
