Here's a clever tip I learned from a Lee Earle lecture approx. 25 years ago:
Lee wore a small magnifying glass hung on a long cord around his neck, just like one would wear an amulet. Whenever a curious person asked why he has a magnifying glass around his neck.....well, there you go, instant marketing! If I recall the lecture correctly, Lee would give the inquirer a very quick palm reading sample if time and circumstances permitted. What a great method of marketing palm readings and gaining clients! Think about it.....many, if not most retail cashiers are female, so almost every time you purchase something in a retail establishment, you will potentially have another opportunity to gain a new client. So, stop getting your daily coffee via drive thru window, and instead go inside the Café to make your purchase. Also, if you cannot find a small magnifying glass with a hole in the handle, then simply make a hole with a power drill. And use a colorful cord, so it stands out visually on your torso.

A dusty old tome to consult for anything unusual and peculiar. "Hmmm, this is something I've never seen ... I remember reading about it ... I think I marked it in this book..."
Any old book could be used if only you see the contents. Distress the contents, run the pages across a belt sander, tea dye pages, dog ear page corners, add book marks, perhaps let a candle drip on it, rub dirt / sand / coffee grounds on specific places. A more specific book could be made that others could see the contents. Lay the book on the table, flip through pages. They see arcane symbols, charts, diagrams of hands, other unusual stuff (I'd use the Voynich manuscript as inspiration, but there's plenty of other historic examples). Marginals pens by several hands in different inks gives the impression of the book having been passed on. (Marginals could be in multiple languages - Russian, Chinese, Sanskrit: just make sure you know what they say in case anyone looking over your shoulder happens to know those languages!) If making / having made, sew the pages together add a leather cover, again distressing and miscoloring. FWIW, 5-10 of these reference pages could be added into an existing old book: if they are the only pages someone sees, they'll assume the entire book is filled with similar pages. As set dressing, a stack of books could be added. Take a bunch of old books, cut out the pages, replace with a balsa wood frame painted to emulate paper. Or take a stack of books, glue the together, use a band saw cut to cut the pages to leave about an inch at the top(leave intact the top cover of the top book and the bottom cover of the bottom book.) Again, add a wood frame: you essentially have a box made out of books: people see the spines and the top pages and don't question the rest. |

Ron Martin used to wear a magnifying glass on a chain around his neck. Grea hook for causing people to ask you about it and to let people know that you are a palm reader.
