Hey Everyone - boy it has been a LONG time since I have posted here on the Café! I have just been way too busy but I do miss the fun conversations.
I am working on a huge project at the moment and I am in need of two things: 1) A list of resources from the brain trust here and 2) an inquiry of interest. The project I am working on is to be a comprehensive compendium on the Ramsay Cylinder & Coins. This is a massive undertaking but it is going to contain much more than just methods. I have a number of contributors lined up and even have Andrew Galloway himself on board and helping with this project, along with my good friend, Michael Vincent. What I am seeking from everyone here is a list of resources in which any and all versions and variations of this effect have appeared (including the Cap & Pence where it all started). I am looking for lists of known videos, magazines (any periodicals), books, pamphlets, etc. I already have a large and extensive list of resources but duplicate citations will happen, so just list what you know if you would like to help. It would be MUCH appreciated! The other thing I would like is to have a sort of Q&A about the Cylinder & Coins with performers who already perform it or has previously performed it regularly for some time. We are looking for insights and a few other things. If this is something you think you may like to participate in, please send an email to cylinderandcoins@gmail.com and put Ramsay Q&A in the subject line. Please do not ask about deadlines, a rundown of complete contents or lists of contributors - that information will come over time and we are very excited about the project. We certainly hope you can help us with this part of the research phase and we appreciate the time and input that anyone is willing to share with us! Happy ChristmaHannuKwanzika everybody! |

I ran across this looking for history on a "Whisper" by Roger Klause gimmick I found in an estate I will soon be selling for the widow. http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magpence.htm
It is a good starting point as many of these references could lead to others.

Thanks Poof - I have contributed to that site and list myself in the past. An excellent resource indeed, but by no means complete. Thanks very much for your input!

On the NYCMS dvd series, there are 2 versions by Mike Gallo, and versions as well by Marc DeSouza, Giacomo Bertini, and Jean Emmanuel Franzis. There will be a version by Geoff Latta in the new Steve Minch book. Curtis Kam has a version with 6 coins, on one of his dvds.

At the last Genii Convention, Steve Valentine was doing a lecture on old effects he's updated, found in old magazines and books. One, fairly similar to C&C, but it used a matchbox. Steve said he's not much of a coin magician but used this effect. Very similar in effect, but minus the one by one vanishes, and a very quick moving trick. It did get a great response.

Thanks Doc and Tom - much appreciated.
@Tom: Would you be referring to the 'last Genii convention' as the one held just this year? |

Yes, Steve Valentine was the first lecture.
