This puzzle is at least 60 years old; I remember it from around 1960. It consists of 12 pieces, which are to be arranged to form an 8x8 checkerboard. The original puzzle was made from plastic; I made my own version out of wood. I have found three different solutions.
Does anyone out there know any details about where this puzzle came from, who developed it, etc.? It might have been in conjunction with a contest; i.e., whomever came up with the most solutions would win a cash or merchandise prize. Click here to view attached image. |

See Solomon Golomb's book Polyominoes:
https://www.amazon.com/Polyominoes-Fasci......019QYOOC I was given this book as a teen-ager and it included a set of the 12 pentominoes. In the picture above, you have some pentominoes there, along with some hexominoes, triminoes, and even a septomino. This book is really good, gives you lots more puzzles and theory about them.
