I received a PM a bit earlier from a gentleman here on the Café regarding one of my Magician friends originally from St. Louis, Dan Fleshman, who will be performing at a venue in New Jersey this coming weekend.
This gave me pause to reflect on how lucky I was to grow up in St. Louis when I did, it was an honor to get to know many GREAT St. Louis area fellow Magicians, including one we don't seem to talk about much any more,,,,,,,,, Bud Dietrich.......also known as "Mr. Hoyle". Bud, along with Johnny Thompson Eddie Tullock and Marshall Brodien was one of the pioneer Magicians who opened up the field of Trade Show Magic and paved the way for many many other magicians who do trade shows. Bud was one of the few Magicians who has received the prestigious St. Louis Magical Heritage award.....others include Gene DeVoe, Bill Baird, Ernie Heldman, Don Lawton, Paul LePaul, Will Lindhorst, Roy Mayer, Joe Scott, and Bro. John Hamman (not bad company to keep!) Just curious as to whether any of you here ever had the chance to meet or know Bud? The man was, literally, a Class Act, and paved the way for so many magicians to follow! |

Bud and his wife used to come to dinner at Gallagher's, a restaurant in Waterloo, IL where I worked. We became friends and would run into each other here and there.
He was truly a great gentleman. I miss his visits.
