I am curious if anyone has seen a marketed routine where a cell phone is vanished and appears in an impossible location? I have seen the Jarret shoe machines I like them but feel they are too big for a smartphone. Also I have seen routines where the phone appears to be broken and then restored but I am not a fan of damaging personal items from the audience and then restoring them. Anyone have any ideas of where to look.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "Jarret Shoe Machine". But I'm still going to make an attempt at helping you.
A few years ago, Wolf's Magic had a prop they made called a "Cellulator". It was a version of wiz kote with a cell phone, instead of a shoe. And he also sold a prop called "Phone-ale", which was for re-appearing/finding the vanished phone. I believe that "Cellulator" is listed as discontinued, but "Phone-ale" is listed as out of stock. http://wolfsmagic.com/A_Products%202013.htm http://wolfsmagic.com/A_PhoneAle%202013.htm www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.ph......orum=218 So, you might look for one of those used. - Donald P.S. Of course, you could buy a wiz kote / burnt shoe prop, and use that for a cell phone instead of the shoe. Steve Hart is one source for these. http://magic2motivate.com/Magic_Tricks.html P.P.S. I assume you're not looking for a routine like this, because the cell phone appears to be damaged initially.

Mini-Mysteries Book 03 item 09 - "The Holiday Candy Box" at The Magic Nook
Filling the container with wrapped candies is optional. In one performance at a park, we filled it with small bouncing super-balls that were dumped out into the audience at the end for a merry chase finale.

I would imagine that the main problem is not the creation and routine for the effect, but the ever changing cell phone market. 1st you have to deal with brands, and types, then color, and finally models. They are even changing the size as well. From reading introductions to new products on the Café, everyone would want a certain phone, or a phone that will match all the products on the market, which would be impossible. The only effect I have read was in Genii Magazine some years back. The magician pull out a size 10 envelope that was folded up, opened out the envelope and removed a cell phone. Sorry, no information on the issue of the magazine at this late date. It did work great as published, and I can see that it would work for stage and close-up presentations. All you have to do is find a good vanish for a cell phone. |

The above mentioned Mini-Mysteries Book 03 item 09 - "The Holiday Candy Box" at The Magic Nook comes complete with a new vanish method for the cell phone as well as the reappearance in the candy tub, plus a bonus "reward" for the spectator (in the case of the Wiz Kids, almost always a child) of being able to select candies from the tub which are magically transformed into a candy necklace after applause for the vanishing and reappearing cellphone has died down. It is important to note that someone from the audience keeps calling the borrowed cell phone from time to time, so the audience can hear where it is by the ringtone, coming first from the spectator holding it before the vanish, and then instantly the sound begins coming from the box or tub of candy after the "transposition" takes place. The old fogies at the Magic Nook worked out a lot of the magic moves, but it was the young whipper-snapper Wiz Kid Qua-Fiki who showed us how to "sell it" to the audience of cell-phone owners in a way they could really appreciate and wonder over.

Yep there is a marketed prop used in table hopping. The cell phone (smart phones of a size) ends up in a wallet that had previously had a selected and signed card end up therein (and in an envelop). Both effects (card to envelope AND cell phone to wallet) were instantly repeatable (almost instant reset time thanks to Harry Robson's "instant reset" principle for card to envelope).
It is sold as ATW Rebooted (Anything To Wallet new version) by RSVP magic at: http://www.rsvpmagic.com/atw-rebooted-ready-to-ship/

The cell phone production from a folded envelope referenced above is by David Acer from the November 2006 Genii. It was also published in Acer's book More Power To You.

I believe Penn & Tellers cell phone routine was created by Johnny Thompson?
Matt Franco does a similar routine and I know Johnny worked on his show. I was sad that Johnny’s books didn’t include a few of the larger stage routines that he’s worked on throughout the years. (Still great books of course ) |

In response to Donald's comment above, the Jarrett Shoe Machine is produced by Dan Wolfe at Smoky Mountain Magic and is an AWESOME prop. However, the best cell phone to impossible location was performed on Fallon utilizing the Boretti Box/Emotion Box and, as I've said many times, WTF?

Yes, I should have recognized the name, because I already own several props from Smoky Mountain Magic, and the Jarrett Shoe Machine is actually on my wish list. I didn't realize that the description on his website talked about using items such as a cell phone or ball cap -- I assumed it just talked about using a shoe. https://www.smmagic.com/blog1/?product=jarrett-shoe-machine And of course, this prop is a variation of Wiz Kote, which I referenced above. --- Quote:
