There are tons of reels on the market varying from .25 to $100’s.... I want to perform it and make sure I have the right “tools”... which reel do you guys recommend and if it happens to be one that’s hard to find can you provide a lead/source/link... I can already visualize me performing this for family crowds😃
By the way I accept reel donations 😁 Thanks in advance, J Rodriguez

If you want a control reel, here is my suggestion: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S20453#reviews I have a few of them. But they do make noise. It depends how close you are to the audience. Another disadvantage is it might not be so smooth. I purchased 5 earlier this month. The reason I purchased that many is because they are low priced, and incase one breaks before my act, I have several back ups. Out of the 5, one was not working smoothly. But it is okay, Penguin Magic sent me an additional for free.
Another one I purchased this month from Ebay is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/372434302813 It is smoother and quieter that the previous one. It has no control button to it. But no problem, because it is easier to control with my fingers without the control button. The thread is longer than the previous one. It has no finger clips, but it is not need for me. That is why I broke off the clips to the one I mentioned earlier. The color is nothing like the color of your skin, but no problem because the reel is always hidden. A book is also included in the package. It is very similar to Paul Diamond's. I recommend this one. The alligator clips do not come with the reels. I put them on so I will be able to show the silk plainly with easy access to clip on to the reel. |

My Two cents worth of advice: start by learning how to perform the Serpentine Silk without a reel (see Rice Encyclopedia). The main problem with almost every reel available is that they can jam when you least expect it and you are stuck with a dead serpent silk UNLESS you have learned to perform the routine without the reel in which case you are prepared for the situation.

I would recommend a Kirkendall or P-L reel. They are usually available on eBay and the are a good reel. No longer made they are very repairable and seldom need repairs.
