A client told me about a trick... A spectator is told to think of a card. He can change his mind as many times as they want. The magician says that he brought a envelope from home with a card in it. The card turns out to be the card the spectator thought of.
Does anyone know what trick this could be? I thought maybe it could be Bang On 2.0, but the client says he saw this a year or more ago. |

It is explained in "Corinda's Thirteen Steps to Mentalism," by Tony Corinda (1931-2010), published in 1968.

Jim, I have the book and have read it. Can you tell me what section it might be in?
Thanks! |

I recommend you combine with an envelope switch so the envelope is in plain sight when the card is selected. Let spectator open the envelope.

I am not exactly new to magic but I have a question.
Where do you stand if a trick you buy does not do what it says on the tin? i.e. You watch a trailer, do some searching, and buy the trick and when you get it you say Oh No! I thought it was this or that? You can't send it back and therefore you are stuck with something that doesn't work for you. Then you end up selling it at a loss? |

Paul Gallagher did a DVD with over 5 hours of really nice and perfectly usable routines that you can do with the cheap beginner tricks and slum magic, that usually ends up in there called Miracles from the Sock Drawer! Also check out Arcade Dreams by Jon Racherbaumer in which he details Ed Marlo's routines with various slum items such as the ball vase, magic frame, and snapper, that he used working the demo counter at the Treasure Chest. And yes, sometimes these items are sold to others at a loss. Or a gain if you can find the right mark^H^H^H^H er ah, buyer... Unfortunately you will get ripped off buying magic tricks sooner or later... It wasn't really any better in the brick and mortar shops, even with a demo there you would end up buying crappy magic tricks, probably more so. Buying a bunch of junk is a phase most of us went through as a novice. I feel like this is part of the learning experience in magic. Take heart though, with time you will smarten up. With this experience you will be able to watch these videos and know what is going on and be able to spot the jump cuts and trickery. Sometimes these are perfectly good tricks and the video has to be edited this way to hide the secret that the spectator would have been distracted from anyway. Try to learn the trick any way, even stuff like ball vase and color vision! Learning a routine with and performing these tricks teaches you valuable principles in magic.

Speaking of getting ripped off buying magic...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SpdH0XXVbI Our very own Master Payne's Coin-In-Bottle routine is about just that...

Not ALL dealers are the same!
Black Artefacts effects all carry a 90-day money back guarantee. If for ANY reason you do not wish to keep an effect you have purchased from Black Artefacts you can return it within 90 days and you will receive a refund. I believe that we are the only magic manufacturer and dealer to offer this money back guarantee. At Black Artefacts we want happy customers, not customers with sock drawers full of our stuff. Some people have said to me, for example, "Do that trick you did for me where I pick a card and it was in my own wallet, you were nowhere near me". If you have a magic club in your area, they often hold swap meets where they all get together and trade tricks they will never use, and then trade them again next time for other tricks they'll also never use!
