Anyone have a logical reason for an Okito box? I've heard different reasons, such as, just stating it's a magic box or pill box.
But when you say "Box" to a laymen they are thinking about something square not round, and pill box? Some laymen have never seen a half dollar before, so to bring out a round "Box" and call it a pill box I'm sure they would think it to be a prop. So I've been looking for a really good logical reason for using them. Something laymen can relate to. Re:The tough questions are whether or not to hinge the box, and whether or not to put a knob on top. A hinge would be nice. In Meir Yedid's book "Magical Wishes" Mike Gallo had a wonderful routine titled "Safe and Sound" where a dial from a combination lock is glued to the top of an Okito box and the box is used as a safe for the coins. One of the best uses for an O.box I've seen. Best Joe

Does anyone know if Roth has a website where he offers any of the gaffs he uses, book/manuscripts/lecture notes he's written, etc.?

If you were to put a hinge on the box...you would be unable to do turnover moves. One presentation I used for many years when vanishing coins and causing them to re-appear inside the box was...I would explain that in my youth, I was a tiddly wink champ. would then show them my gold medal tiddly wink cup..... Jonathan, one reason to get some custom boxes, especially from someone like Roy Keuppers (Canadian), is that some of us prefer to have our props/gaffs done in Canadian currency.
I know someone who got Roy to make up the Swadling coin (and a few others) in old Canadian silver dollars.
Cheers,

Does anyone know a source for an Okito box/Boston box that is more decorative than a simple smooth box? The Dragon Box is nice, but doesn't have a Boston version? I need both. I like props that look exotic and old, but almost every box seems like a machined chunk of brass. I'd love to find a set that has some filigree or design on the top and sides.... any suggestions?
Thanks "Merloc"

I like Chazpro's "Buddha" Okito box series -- they have the design in each type of box you'd want. http://www.chazpro.com

It may be worth giving Todd a call to see if he would make a custom box set, what it would co$t, and what his current workload is looking like. I imagine that if he does make boxes, they would be exquisite. Best, Mike |

I called David Roth and he called back and could not have been nicer on the phone. Ordered his okito coin box set from him after I thanked him for all the magic.

Several years ago I was fortunate to attended a lecture by David Roth. It is still one of the best lectures I’ve gone to. After, he sold his notes and boxes inwhich I bought a set.
The cool thing about the Roth boxes isn’t that he sells them, but he designed them. |
