In you book McComb's Magic you have a system of index cards you used to organize and assemble acts based on your working repertoire.
As you are now even 25 years wiser, have you made any additions or adjustment to that system?

This was mostly useful when I was working cruise ships and
singers would not feel like doing a show and pofess "terrible throat....couldn't possibly work tonight" and who would they ask...McComb and I'd usually be able to cobble together an act. Later when my hair turned gray they stopped working me on ships in case I dropped dead suddenly !. That was twenty years ago . By now I had moved into doing just the odd outside show and The Castle. In both cases the bookings gave me plenty of time to figure out what would be right for that particular audience. (I'd quiz the booker re the ages, number in audience, venue, all the stuff you need to know to figure out what would suit that particular crowd) Right now I only do the odd outside show. Usually only if they ask for me. In The Magic Castle I'd try to do something different from my last time in that room...really just for magicians who wouldn't want to see the same old stuff every time. Many magicians just happily do the same stuff and the hell with it Nowadays when I work the Palace I do try to do different things. For the Brunch on Sundays I add a lot of kid stuff. Despite this I never get booked on the special "for kids only" show they put in the Parlor. It has been ages since I worked the Parlor in the weekly shows and several years since I worked the Close-Up. Maybe they think I'm over the hill, but Amazing Johnathan still books me in Vegas. Go figure !

Pete,
Were we supposed to stop? My sister still gives me a large box of index cards every Christmas. It works out about right for the year. I was out campaigning for a Congressman friend of mine two weeks ago. The mayor of a very accomplished city came up to me and said, "I thought I would like you. You have index cards in your pocket." He did too! I liked him too. I hope he votes right and votes often. Bob Magic By Sander |

Thanks Billy.
I also liked your idea of keeping all of your props for an effect in one zip lock bag with an inventory list. Very helpful as well. Hope you found a good use for the small rubber chicken you got up here in Seattle. Take care.

Billy,
I've been using the Zip-Loc's for years. Really keeps the case from being a big mess. My wife was upset that week...had nothing to put the kids' sandwiches in, but my case was organized! Rick
