Just found this unique table for manipulators and Dove workers. I am considering purchasing it.
Does anyone see any drawbacks to this table/stand? http://siam-magic.com/product_detail.php?pid=126 The Siam Magic Stand. |

I have not personally used this but I just do not feel that table is worth 200.00. it just does not look good to me and would think the shelves are too small and your proprs or billard balls would roll off. The shelves do not give you much room on them and they are too close to each other.
Also, having the ditch bag in full view looks rather shabby as well. I like to keep mind out of view so that there is less distracting the audience as I do my routine. I think there are much better designed tables out there for manipulation for your money. Just my personal opinion. Kyle

I don't like the multicolour look of it, either. I like consistency in both colour and appearance.
This is ust my opinion. With a price tag of $200, I wouldn't even consider purchasing it. |

I agree with the price issue. It looks kind of flimsy to me and way overpriced.
You can get a collapsable laundry hamper and cover it with cloth to match you stage setting. If I were going to use this table, I would make it more sturdy so I could do steal out the ditch area.

The best manip table I have found is the 10 second table made by david charvet.the top load.

A top load table or a table with a ditch area from the top is ideal and essential for a manipulator. You can ditch as well as make table steals and loads from that.

I have the 10 second table and I can vouch for it. It is the best! I don't use it for manip, I use it for storing props and as a table during smaller stand up shows, but I'd imagine that it would work well for manipulation. BTW, David Charvet doesn't make them, he only sells them. Mark Evans is the builder.

Where can one see this 10 second table, I have heard so much about it, yet haven't seen one.
Many thanks! |

Here is an idea that has worked well for me in the past. Go to your local grocery store or retail store and ask a manager if they have any stands, racks, etc. that are ready to be thrown out, or at least tell him to call you when they have some to be thrown out. I got a few cool looking greeting card racks, which I fixed up a bit with little effort and they work perfectly for a manipulation act. The best thing is that the rack is on locking wheels too. Look around see what you can find and use!

Looks totally impractical. What can you put on those shelves?
Look at any video's of Fred Kaps' act and see his simple setup... ditto McBride. The table, IMHO, should be ALMOST invisible, nothing to distract from the performer. KISS: Keep It Simple Sir :kermit:

Thanks, Donald. It looks quite useful (the 10 Second Table).
Thanks again for the link. |
