I'm looking for a book with some good routines that can be done with Osterlind's stack.
Any recommendations? Thanks. |

I'm assuming Osterlind's books would be good for Osterlind material.

That's a good question. I have his stack booklet; it's great, but it does only have a few routines in it. Frankly, I think that you could use the stack in conjunction with any routine that involves someone "picking" a card and it legitimately being lost in a deck - meaning you don't control it at all.
I imagine he probably teaches more effects to use with the stack on his videos. tjo'

Thanks, scafidi7.
I have his video. He explains about four routines, and that's why I'm looking for more. |

Just get a book on cyclical stack tricks, such as any Si Stebbins book and you will get more routines.

My God! I doubt there is anything stronger than his Challenge Mind Reading Effect with this stack. I do this all the time and it NEVER fails to drop jaws. I've added my own touches that even can make it a magician fooler, but even in it's most basic form I doubt any single card effect is stronger than that one.
If you NEED more effects with a stack, one would be The Shuffled Setup by Theo Anneman as described in The Amateur Magician's Handbook, Chapter 13 section 3.

It's no good. You can't do anything with the stack impromptu.

I expect that notfredkaps (who apparently believes that only impromptu magic is good) means simply that because s/he can't do anything impromptu with this, it isn't any good for her/him. The rest of us can find assurance in the fact that it certainly is possible to make impromptu use of this and other stacks, to great effect. ... Doug

I think notfredkaps is doing a great disservice to the Kaps name as well. Looks like he or she is just trying to get enough posts to make it to the secret sessions area.

Yup.

Hey Guys... have a little sympathy. Notfredkaps has only posted five times and is probably very young or very new to magic.
To Notfredkaps: There are many, many stacked deck effects. You can do them impromptu if you just carry a stacked deck with you. My stack of choice is the Aronson stack, but I usually have a deck in my pocket, and it's set up in Aronson stack order. There are also some routines which allow you to stack a deck right in front of the audience. One is "A Subtle Game" in the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks. Finally, there's the age old ploy of excusing yourself to use the rest room. In privacy, you set up your stack, and you're ready to perform "impromptu." As many will tell you: the Osterlind stack is indeed very good. Dennis Loomis
