From my understanding, the only authorized manufacturers of the “origami illusion” are John Gaughan and Wellington Enterprises. It was created by Jim Steinmeyer.

You can access the Wellington Enterprises site through the following address: http://www.wellingtonent.com/document/wellmenu.html

Anyone who can prove they have paranormal, supernatural, or occult power can earn a quick $1 dollars (US) from the James Randi Educational Foundation. http://www.randi.org/research/

To date, no one has passed even the preliminary tests.

So . . .

What does it all mean? Well, if someone has a set belief in something, no matter how strange, they will never be convinced by any evidence presented to the contrary - be it psychics, believers, debunkers or others.

For me, I think, the truth may fall somewhere between extremes.

Best wishes in snaking through the chaos. Smile

I used to want to believe but now I am very skepical. True story,
I once had my palm read (free) and the "palm reader" stated that I would be wealthy and successful by the time I was 25, one little problem, I WAS 31 AT THE TIME. I said nothing and been laughing about it ever since.
Houdini spent the later years of his life trying to prove that mediums and others were fake. Just my 2% of $1.00

If the wish is the father of the thought, then it is the mother of the hallucination of the senses.

Robert,
That's a quote (hopefully close) from Houdini's book: A Magician Among the Spirits. You can still find it. Houdini spent years studying the paranormal. He desparately wanted to be able to contact his mother who had passed on. So he looked all over the world for people claiming to be mediums and psychics. You should read his book. It's interesting to see an intelligent magician's perspective on the paranormal... especially when that magician desparately wants to believe. His research was extensive; therefore, to advise your opinion on the matter, you should read his work.

And I know a few who've studied Wicca. It's quite misunderstood, and there are some valuable principles regarding how humans should treat one another... but now we're talking religion.

Here's a reference for you, robertk4you. Have a look at this site: http://skepdic.com/

It's a very valuable resource if you want to get a handle on how some of the fakery works.

In some respects, I know where you're coming from. I'd love to believe there was some "real" magic. I have yet to find any evidence of it, despite wanting to! That said, it is insulting to most magicians (i.e. the kind of magicians you will find in this forum) to suggest that all the we do is what anyone else can do ... go into a magic store, buy an Invisible Deck, and do it. A layman might perform Invisible Deck terribly. In the hands of a good magician, it can be made to seem utterly mind-boggling. A good, experienced magician will also be able to present the effect in such a way that there is no awkward moment at the end where the spectator insists on examining the deck. In fact, I have never had anyone ask - it's all about managing your audience.

Yo,

One of the classic books on Psychic phenom is "Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtin", and details the tests of various psychics in the Russia many years ago. The book was written as if everything that happened was proven real, etc. Some years latter it was revealed by a number of the psychics tested that EVERYTHING had been faked! No magicians were involved in the testing by the way.

The literature is rife with accounts of folks who can levitate, etc., but there is never any reliable eye witness proof AND every single time that a psychic is tested under conditions set forth by magicians in the know.......they fail to produce. The explanation that they failed becuse they were surrounded by negative energy has been used by every fake psychic and spitualist for hundreds of years. Best,
