I didn't know where to post it, but since I learned it from Bill Malone, I'm going to post it in cards.
Anyway, I was wondering if someone can explain "lapping" to me. I mean, the concept is fairly simple. I understand that, but do you just continue your show with the cards (or item) in your lap? What about when you stand up? Bill Malone actually uses it in a finisher, then stands up and walks away (volume 2). Hopefully I'm not getting too close to exposure here. If I am, please edit, or PM me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

Good question.
Is there a substitute for lapping if you are stood up? Maybe a Topit? |

What is a Topit?

To discuss the Topit go to the 'Magic Accessories' area.
Lapping is secretly taking things from your lap or secretly placing them in your lap under cover of misdirection. What you do with the things in your lap during and after the effect is up to you. Whilst putting the props that spectator can see away at the same time put the 'lapped' items away. You will have to choreograph your own ways of doing this. Hope this helps. Kukram

Thanks for the advice. I thought "Topit" was a move. Thanks for clearing that up.
So does anyone know what Bill Malone's method is at the end of Volume 2 of getting rid of the cards. He even goes so far to say (on volume 3) that he has lapped a whole deck before (while out of the box). Wow! Any more advice is much appreciated as is the advice already received. Thanks. |

Get the Magic of Slydini. That will teach you all you need to know about lapping. He was the MASTER.
Get Pat Page's material on the Topit. All others are just rehashes of his. It all takes a lot of practice, but is well worth it.

Lennart Green deals with lapping somewhat in his DVD set. Perhaps you can produce it later in the routine in a magical fashion (Green does this sometimes) or if it is your closer that utilizes lapping perhaps have something on the table that you can cleanup, giving you some misdirection to clear the stuff on your lap.
As for Bill Malone, I only have volumes 1 and 4. I would just say watch the performance and explanation repeatedly and also keep in mind some editing might have been done. |

I don't remember that part of the DVD very well, so I don't recall if the table had a long tablecloth on it or whatnot. Check out Stars of Magic and Slydini on the art of using the lap as a servante.
