Well, I have a similar effect called "Desappearing coke".
Desappearing coke it's a very good effect. It really amazes people. |

I use the Coke bottle to Coke can effect. Very visual and can be done surrounded.

I really don't know who created the desappearing coke.
The presentation is: You show a bottle of 600ml of coke. Get this bottle on the palm of you hand. With the other hand you show a plastic (but not transparent) cilinder almost of the bottle's size. Put the bottle inside this cilinder and using a silk you cover everything. When you take the silk out, people still see the bottle there, but when you squeeze the bottle against the cilinder, the coke vanishes! I hope I got explain the effect, if not...I'm here to try again. |

I used a black art well (does anyone else do that anymore?) I used a Nielsen bottle vanish, doing the old bit where I transform a bottle into a can, then back again by switching them in a paper bag. I then "vanish" the bottle by crushing it in the bag. Finally, I roll a paper tube arond the can, secretlu dropping it into the well, and crush that as well.
It's a nice utility to have, as you can vanish, switch, or appear a variety of items. |

Well using the Black Art well is a bit old for this effect. Doing it your hand gives it an extra BAM!!! People will sit there and think how did he do that. There are no trap doors in your hand or anyplace to hide a bottle.
The effect that I use is that you have this Coke Bottle and you cover it with opaque plastic cylinder that is half the size of the bottle. Opps it doesn't cover the whole bottle all the way. So you cover the bottle and cylinder with a cloth. They can still see the bottom of the bottle if you like. Then you remove the silk and the bottle is still showing at the bottom (since the cylinder only covers half of it you have half the portion still showing at the bottom). Well then you slam the tube down and the bottle has vanished and you can show the tube to the audience. In place of the Bottle is a Coke can. A real Coke can that you can hand out to someone that wants a drink. Hope that helps. Michael

Plenty of interesting advice here, but I think members are missing what zone098 actually asked about.
It is not the vanishing bottle of coke he is asking about, or using that prop to change it to a coke can. It is this item, the vanishing can of coke, at Bazar de Magia: http://www.magia.com.ar/?w=showdetails&itemId=1541 This is the item he is asking a review of. I have and use the vanishing bottle of coke (about 750 ml to 1 litre in size). That is a different item than the can. Read the description, and you'll see this one doesn't need the silk, unless you want to change the can to a silk. You can also pour liquid from the can, before you make the can disappear (so the description states). - Donald. P.S. I haven't seen this item, so I can't give you an opinion of it. I've only seen it advertised.

I have only perormed it a few times and no one ever thought it was a fake --- especially since I pour a couple of ounces of Coke from it (no switches) into a glass before the can vanishes. If you do any silk routines, this is an alternative way to make a silk reappear. You can even do it in terms of "goofing up" the reappearance, failing everytime. Then you drink some Coke because you start to sweat and, lo and behold, the Coke can disappears and the silk reappears. As long as you hold the can close to the bottom, there are no performance angles to worry about. Like anything else, this trick matches some people's style and not others'. Bazar de Magia also makes a Vanishing Budweiser Can. PM if you have any other questions.

Yes, I know what he was asking about -- I was just offering an alternative. Also, performed correctly, using an art well should give the same impression. Paper unrolled or smashed, and BAM! the can is gone ... Ya don't squash it *into* the well! It is away from the art well and in your hands at the time of the vanish.
But, I'm glad there are those out there who think that traditional methods are "old" ... leaves the field wide open for creative types to really fool 'em! |

I own the Vanishing Coke Can and I think it is pretty well-made. One part of the can broke on me so I had to do a slight modification to "beef up" that particular part of the can. Isn't that the norm with just about everything? Other than that it has been fine. I have had it for a couple of years now. I don't use it in every show, but with the modification, it seems to be durable.
Hope this helps, Regan

Romulo,
English is my first language and I don't do it very well. You do fine! I like the vanishing Coke tricks (Both of them!). For many years I used the vanishing 32oz Coke bottle as the "Extra" trick at the end of a show in the flat. The way I do it I can do it surrounded. My load in the bottom is a huge "The End" silk. The line I've used since the 70s is: "And see there, it's gone! Oh! That's just The End!" Then I show the silk and the empty cylinder. It leaves the audience having fun. Enjoy! Bob Magic By Sander |

I have the old one where you place a tube on the bottle and then place a silk hankie to cover everything. Then remove the hankie but it did not dissappear. Then I slam the cylinder down and the bottle dissappears and changes into a real coke can. I do not think they make this anymore.

To me it's on the cheaper side of the marketplace so don't expect to much. Ive had problems with top being smaller than can base. Coke cans have changed so much, mine looks out of date now. Suggest more for a younger audience and it'll do well.

Vanishing coke can by Bazar de Magia,i know it is an old thread but I have had this in my drawer for a while now and have been playing about with this effect and come up with a nice little routine where I show a can of coke, pour out the last drop into a clear cup, then do the vanish with the black silk and hey presto I drop a small can of orange out of the tube unopened and blow out a red, blue and green silk from the tube ,look's pretty darn visual. The can I got is pretty worn and the writing is in Spanish,so I have been making a few new one's up which is not hard to do,i am not that good at DIY let alone metal work, but if anyone has this and has chucked it in the back drawer, then it might be worth another punt, just sharing my thought's with the Café,all the best.
