Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum and hopefully soon I will be posting more things every day. For now I have one question.........
I am semi new to magic and all, I LOVE card tricks and close up magic and would like to be an all card trick type of guy. What books and videos does everyone recommend for Card Sleights? And has anyone seen any of the videos from http://www.ellusionist.com/ They look really good and I'm thinking of getting some but I would like to hear some opinions first. And if anyone has any other sites where I can get magic videos to download (even if I have to pay for them) that would be great. I live in Ontario, Canada and dutie is too much to be paying for videos from the US, so downloading them is the best way to go or even getting them from Canada but I haven't found many places to get good videos for card tricks here in Canada. Well anyways thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope I didn't bore anyone. Shaun |

Welcome to the Cafe. Try the search engine for books on card magic and Ellusionist videos. Or search around the site yourself and you will find various threads on the subjects you are interested in.

I own 2 Ellusionist videos. Both of them are excellent and teach you good technique. I would recommend you look into his new video Crash Course in cards.

I own Ninja 1 and Ninja 2 from Ellusionist. They are ok for beginner like myself but I think you can get something better. I mean, you want some card sleights, right? Go with Daryl´s videos about card sleights. They are great.

Don't miss the Michael Ammar Easy to Master Card Miracles series. There are six videos and every one of them has top of the line professional card magic. The teaching on the tapes is superb and almost every classic card plot is represented in some way or another.
Good Luck and thanks, Richard Green

I would recommend The Royal Road To Card Magic (a book), Double Take (a VHS tape by G. Wilson) and Ammar's Card Miracles Vol 2 on DVD. I'm sure that you can order these in Canada if you find a magic shop that stocks these items.
Do a search for information on Ellusionist stuff. Your money in my humble opinion, is better spent elsewhere!

Techneeqs asks: "Does anyone know any card sleight or close up magic courses in Ontario, Canada?"
Try asking Dan Morrissey, at Morrissey Magic on Dufferin St., or Jeff Pinskey at Browser's Den of Magic on Bathurst St. If there is anything like that around, one or both of them will know about it. :wavey: |

If you are looking for a Shop in Ontario Canada as mentioned by Peter Marucci there are two fine places in Toronto. They stock most if not all the recommended videos and books mentioned above.
Check out; http://www.browsersden.com Jeff Pinsky at Bathurst & Eglington or http://www.morrisseymagic.com Dan Morrissey at Dufferin & Eglington. If the trip to Toronto if far and few between, just make up a wish list, save up and make a trip to the store once a month or so. I personally have only shopped at Browser's Den and they have practically anything you need and I am sure that Morrissey Magic is just as good. Of course ordering online is also the way to go for you. Shipping costs will be low because it's shipped within Ontario. Have fun shopping! |

if you want to learn card sleights, there is no better video series than Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleight.
Michael Ammar is very good, too, I recently bought his "Easy to master" series 1-3, but he will show you "only" tricks. There are a few sleights on it also, but they are only shown very short. To learn sleights - Daryl. (I prefer learning from videos than a book, it's more visual...)
