Hi Derren,
After veiwing many conflicting stories in the press about the recent russian roulette routine you performed on TV, I am interested in hearing what actually happened, Tom |

Greetings, Derren. I watched Russian Roulette Live last year, and it was the most riveting piece of television I have ever experienced. Please forgive me if I ask too many questions; I'll understand if you don't have time to answer them all.
Some people who didn't see it may be misled my allegations in certain news reports that the whole thing was a hoax. I know what I saw, but could you confirm for those who may be confused that the stunt was, in essence, an extreme application of psychology rather than a magic trick in the more traditional sense? Obviously it's a very scary thing to do, to bet your life on your mind control / perceptive skills. Was there ever a point when you doubted whether you would be able to go through with it? Have you actually watched it? You remarked that people complained about the possibility of a man blowing his brains out on live television, yet people also complained that it wasn't quite live. Were you irritated by the erroneous claims in some papers that the time delay to allow the broadcast to be stopped in the event of a mishap was a matter of minutes rather than seconds? And do you know exactly how many seconds it was? (I already know it was very few). In the process of selecting your volunteer, did you make the final decision after the last selection-related activity, or had you already known for a while which man you wanted? Regarding the question often asked about whether the ammunition used was live or blank, I know you won't give a straight answer because of legal issues, so I'll ask you a hypothetical question. Given that both are lethal if fired against the temple, but I suspect that if you shot yourself with a blank, you'd be more likely to live just long enough to feel it and realise your mistake; hypothetically of course, do you think it would be scarier to use a live round or a blank? I'll put further questions in a separate post, because I would like to give overseas readers fair warning of any spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet.

I watched Richard Pinner perform Russian Roulete some time ago. Personally, I think that it's something that you need to experience and a live performance on stage does this. Being there and watching it makes it feel so real, you're sucked into the whole thing and you actually feel this your part of the performance.
I think that the questions concerning the methods used in 'Russian Roulette' have been answered so many times. The whole thing should be accepted as a great piece of televised theatre. Everyone wanting to know the philosophy of such a thing should try and experience it rather than just watching it. Completely of the subject, I heard that Guy Hollingsworth will be performing at the Magic Circle this July. For those who don't know Guy, he's amazing and also very good looking. |

Derren, what did you think of the BSC ruling that the programme was acceptable because it was "based on and promoted as an illusion"?

Hi Derren, I presume you had contingency plans of some sort, and I'm wondering what would have happened if your chosen volunteer had got cold feet at the last minute?

Oh, and speaking of contingency plans, please tell me that sufficient precautions were taken to ensure that there was no chance of us losing the picture due to any technical problems at the wrong moment!
