Hi there, first of all, huge fan.
I just wanted to ask if you ever get, or have ever been disappointed with the reaction of someone who maybe didn't appreciate a trick or illusion as much as you'd hoped, or are you happy with any reaction at all? One particular reaction that springs to mind for me which I was disappointed with on your behalf was the primary school teacher's (bear trick). There I was, couldn't have been more impressed, and I just felt that she could have been a bit more enthusiastic about it. Sorry if I've worded that badly, I tried to say it in a way that didn't make me sound like a numpty. Thanks

I LOVED the bear trick. I agree, it did seem to go a bit 'over her head'.

I disagree that's what make the reaction great. As she realy couldn't contemplate what had just happened.

Yes, she was a little understated. Once the cameras were off and the kids were out of the way, she swore like a trooper. But it wasn't natural for her to react strongly with the kids there. Should have thought of that.
I find it hard to keep a straight face when we've gone to a lot of trouble and the punter just isn't impressed. There's been the odd one who just stood there, experiencing nonplussed acceptance, bewilderment or vague disappointment. Makes me laugh, anyway. db |

Lol
Personaly I thought she was just so dumbfounded by the effect, she couldn't speak. Oh well. Also though it must be pretty amusing when they don't react to something you have planned on for a while. Its happened to me many times, and most of the time I know its not the effect its just becasue it hasn't clicked with that person.

One thing that comes to mind is the old woman you were ballroom dancing with and revealing details about the history of the ring she was wearing and her husband.
She was just saying "yes, that's right, back in 1919" in a normal conversation. She didn't seem to realise that you were telling HER stuff about herself that you couldn't know! I believe that's why it was an extra on the DVD anyway, as you said it was a bit disappointing on the commentary. |
