Hello,
Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack that Greg Frewin uses for his Dove Manipulation act?? Thanks in advance. |

It is the World's Greatest Magic Theme I believe.

No, it's not. The WGM piece was, IIRC, a sound-alike composed specifically for the show that was very reminiscent of the music Greg normally uses, which is from the soundtrack to another popular live entertainment show.
I won't post the name, however, because I'm sick of seeing: A)requests for other performers' music, when there are millions and millions of other unused pieces out there* and B)the music from this particular show overused to the point of becoming a cliche by magicians. I can remember a competition about 7-8 years ago where literally every third act used the same exact piece (thankfully [?] not the same one Greg uses) from that same show. It went beyond being silly to being outright annoying. --A *-Yes, there are people who honestly just want to listen to the music. They are, sadly, the rare exception.

Hello Andy,
Neither am I one of those dove manip guys who wannna copy Frewin's piece nor do I just want to listen to it. I happen to be an Event Manager in addition to performing occasional Illusion shows and my regular closeup. I wanted to use this piece as a background for a Laser show, in conjunction with other pieces. Cheers |

I totally agree. Too much of the same!!!
As a music consultant, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen performers making poor musical choices by using the same old dated music tracks. It seems they’re just content to copy someone they’ve seen on stage before … when that person’s musical choices may have been poor to begin with! Many of us don’t take the time to think about the best possible way to use music. In an ideal world, each of our routines would have its own customized music track. But few of us can afford to do that. So, what do we do? We simply slap on one of our favorite CD’s or tapes and start to perform … not caring where the music changes, nor when it stops or starts! This “lazy man’s approach” can actually cause a distraction and work against you! Music can be incredibly beneficial in just about any situation … if it’s used correctly. So what kind of music should you use? This depends on many factors: your theme or subject, your on-stage character, the mood of your story or routine, etc. I covered the topic of when and where to use music quite extensively in my lecture notes, The Magic of Music: How to Orchestrate Your Act. I won’t expand on that here, but let me just deal with the matter of pop music. Many of us use mainstream pop music in our shows. But if a song is familiar to the audience, it could be detrimental to your show! Let me explain why. Let’s say you’ve licensed the right to use the theme music from the movie, “The Titanic.” Unless you are reenacting a scene from the movie, that song could work against you. For example, someone in your audience might start thinking about a romantic night out, when that song happened to be playing! That music might remind them of a significant moment with their loved one. In other words, you’ve lost them! Their thoughts are far away, reminiscing about a magical moment ….. quite different from the one you are trying to create! Or, someone else may identify with the song in a negative way. It could have been “their song” before they divorced. Hearing that song again may remind them of a broken heart. Music is a very powerful force! Another thing to consider is that some people simply may not like that style of music. You can really rub people the wrong way by choosing a pop song! And this will NOT benefit your show. So my advice is: Stay away from mainstream pop music. It’s always going to be safer to use Royalty-Free music. - Arthur Stead http://www.arthurstead.com |
