Isn't gimmick better than Coin Magic and Card Magic. This is just my opinion and please share you thoughts.

I personally believe that someone who can manipulate a regualar set of objects, such as a coin or a deck of cards, and can do so on such a profound level that his/her audiance actually believes its magic, is far better qualified to hold the title of "Magician"
"What's your father's occupation?"
"He's a magician" "What's his favorite trick?" "Sawing people in half." "Gosh! Any brothers or sisters?" "One half brother, and two half sisters" |

I think ungimmicked can be more impressive, if you turn a whole deck blank, it's obvious that it's a gimmicked deck, but if you can borrow a park of cards and do an amazing trick, I think most people would find that much more impressive.

It's not always so easy to borrow a deck of cards. Coin magic is more versatile, in my opinion, and coin gimmicks blended smoothely with genuine or borrowed coins work wonders when you're just starting out. From what I see in this forum, people usually begin with a bit of both and later use gimmicks sparingly. |

In my opinion, doing a full length show without gimmicks at all - may be a bit boring.
The use of gimmicks adds "color" to the show. It depends on the circimstances of course, as said caubeck. As for myself, I try not use obvious gimmicks, like making the whole deck blank (like in DamienT98's example). |

I like gimmick, but not big boxes. Like double faced card, invisible deck, invisible thread, thumb tip, fire etc, those only for big shows. Most of the time I use non gim tricks

Kay,
I didn't quite get you. Do you believe that ID,IT,TT (sounds like chemistry formulas are for the big shows ?? Jonathan |

This is a really old argument and one that has a lot of merit these days...
A gimmick is just another tool for entertaining an audience. Nothing more or less. Too many magicians go to conventions or online looking for the trick that will make them famous. Unfortunately, there is no such gimmick for most of us - it's all about being able to entertain, amaze and also about being able to sell our services to an audience, whether on the street, on the trade show floor, a night club, restaurant or in a school. My suggestion to people who ask me about the "perfect" trick is to point them at the classics in magic and say, learn those first - learn how to do them, how to perform then and how to entertain with them. Then, you will know better how to find the "perfect" trick, whether gimmicked or not. Hope this helps, Lee Darrow, C.H.

I like gimmick, but it is undeniable that true sleight of hands and tricks using normal deck or coin is much more powerful and impactgul than gimmicked stuff... just my opinions...

That's all i have to say about that!

Hmmn I'm not to sure, non gimmick cards best, gimmicked coins better, as magikmike said you can manupulate someones mind you can get pure magic, misdirecting them, is better than using a gimmick, think about it, you either need good misdiretion, or a good gimmick

Yet a stripper deck is a very useful gimmicked deck, and the ID is powerful if you can present it properly.
Every well-known magician uses a fair number of gimmicks. In the end it's a personal question: what do you hope you can achieve in magic by the year 2009? |

I like the tricks that look gimmicked but then they can inspect things to see its not at all gimmicked like a trick I have were I turn a brand new sealed deck into a double backed deck that's gimmick less

Probably people always think you are using a gimmick even if you are not. not like always but they cant believe you can do this so they think you are not using real things.

Street magic...gimmicks can get you in trouble. If you do a great gimmick trick, but are asked to repeat it..you probably cannot.
If you run into a spectator again and he/she asks to see a certain trick, you most likely cannot repeat it on the spot. The takes away from the magic. Learn powerful and effective sleights....they are far better than any gimmick. |

The blank deck example is choice. You can do this with any deck no gimmick so why use something that will disscredit you if found out!

Why must you use gimick if just a matter of sleight of hand you can make people believe it is magic! If you tends to rely on gimick without increase your knowledge on doing the sleight stuff you may not be confidence to do impromptu magic. So gimick is just a tools but gain more knowledge on patters & routine using skill manipulation.

Ummm can ANYBODY teach me a sleight, and will be able to vanish a coin FROM A SPECTATOR'S outstretched palm without having my hand touching his?(yes yes just described the raven...)
got my point guys? I beleive though that it's ESSENTIAL to learn sleights, learn the basics, history, facts... do not depend on gimmicks! (sleights, you are doing the magic, gimmicks it is doing the magic for you...now how many of you guys out there don't get a good feeling and satisfaction knowing that YOU did that trick no matter how appealing a gimmick is and no matter how visual it is!) remember , you first learned how to hold a pen and write and after that you started using a computer to do all the typing and hard paper work...still, there's a piece of paper and a pen right next to ur screen that you use everyday! I know this might sound lame to some of you, but just trying to make myself clear! Georgie
Double posters should be shot!
