Is it similiar to this one on Elmwood? It claims there are no seams whatsoever.

Why use just a wand?

Malini, I wonder how that would play in the real world. My gut reaction is that combining the effects weakens both of them.

These appeariong wands, poles, straws, ladders, do not resemble appearing wands or candles. The tech is different. The seams that Elmwood states are the cross stripes that you can see on an appearing cane or candle if you look closely at it. When you uncoil a wand or pole it unciols in such a way that there are no cross seams.

I'm just brainstorming here and thinking that if the pole is similar to appearing canes in this regard, perhaps it can be stored in the hat "sideways" in the "released" position and the released tension would keep the pole with sufficient tension to enable you to first turn the hat upside down (to "show it empty") and then turn the hat right-side up and produce the pole from an "empty" ungimmicked hat. Not having seen the pole, my idea might be totally off-base but, long ago, I remember watching a famous clown magician produce a long pole from a hat and this makes me think that this "sideways" application might be possible. Hi Turk,
Yes, when the pole is collapsed it wants to return to its original 8 foot wand shape. The wand can be held collapsed ready to reveal by as little as the top of the paper bag... you simply poke the top inch of the bag into the end of the wand. The bag can then be placed down on the table without fear of it revealing itself too soon. You can also hold the wand collapsed with a rubber band which can be quickly removed when needed. The only limitation has already been mentioned above by Xmosis: the wand needs about 8 inches of cover to hide the method while producing. Finally, you can hold the top of the paper bag, produce a small amount of wand and then let the spec pull the rest out (as you continue to hold the top of the bag). I only do this for my 5 year old nephew as he has seen me produce the wand before and really enjoys doing it himself. He always finishes by saying: "how does the wand fit in that bag?" |

Here is a picture of the wand coming out of a paper bag. Only the first couple of feet have been pulled out and visible.

We used an appearing pole a few years ago, and attached a wooden bannister ball (like you would see on a staircase) from home depot to the top of it. Then we attached long silk streamers to it, and loaded the whole thing in a small 5 inch box. Pulled it out of the box and put the pole into a base made from a pipe flange on a piece of wood, we had a maypole on stage. Play with it and see what you can think of.
On the other hand, I've gone through two of these and the material starts to crack after a while. Again, this was a few years back, maybe the quality of the materials has improved since then.

I just ordered the multi colored 5 foot pole (Wayne ROgers) for my square circle production. I bought the 5 foot pole strictly for logistics (low ceilings).
Thanks for the image Matite.

I got the 5 ft pole but having problems producing it vertically. It won't form quickly enough from my square circle. Do I have to tilt it sideways in order to produce the pole? Help....please.

Trying closing it from the other end, as the material has a memory, it maybe that you have closed it from the opposite end than it was originally packed ( ie. you have made the thicker end thinner and vice versa). I do not believe that dealers can store these open ( a large stock would simply take up too much space!), and so if this has been in stock a long time it may have been closed for too long. In the open position pass a hair dryer over the whole thing being careful not to get too hot, as this could blister the decoration. The heat produced means that you can "mould" the pole more compact which will make for a tighter closed position, and therefore a faster production. |
