The mailman delivered my new Gary Animal Love Cups today. They are made from thick heavy copper, weighing just a fraction less than six ounces each. The cups are almost exactly 3 inches tall and 3 inches wide at the rim. They were designed to take a tennis ball as a final load, and with an opening of 2-5/8 inches, one fits almost perfectly with a just bit of room to spare. The Loves are very similar in general dimensions to the Sherwood smooth coppers.
These Love Cups fit each other well and stack neatly with almost no wobble. The rims are rolled very tightly, completely pressed against the wall of the cup. The finish is smooth and shiny with a few factory blemishes that, although visible, certainly won't affect their performance. Three balls may be displayed on top of an overturned cup, but only if they are 3/4 inch balls, because the recessed bottom is somewhat smaller than similar sized cups like the Montis, Sherwoods, and Johnsons. The Loves aren't short on attic space though. Three 1 inch balls very easily fit between two stacked cups. The Loves were shipped with a nicely made black velvet drawstring bag and a set of 1-1/4 inch mini baseballs. The baseballs might be slightly too large for many routines since only one can fit cleanly between stacked cups. Of course there are lots of aftermarket balls available, and many may be more suitably sized depending on the requirements of a particular routine. All in all, the Loves are sturdy, well made cups. I understand that very few sets were made, only six sets from what I last read. Gary Animal has recently decided to make his cups in very limited quantities, and may discontinue making certain sizes. As of the date of this posting it appears there are still some sets of Loves available directly from Gary. If you are interested in owning some of these excellent cups, it's probably a good idea to order some as soon as possible. Greg |

Sorry, I should have given a bit more information about the source. The Love Cups are made by Gary Animal, aka Gary Knights, in England. He is the designer and maker of several sizes of magicians' cups, most notably the large street cups used by (and named after) Gazzo.
Gary offers several sizes of heavy duty cups, the smallest being the "Golf", which is designed to take a golf ball as a load. Bill Palmer posted a review of the Golf Cups in this forum. The Love Cups are next, taking a tennis ball load. Larger than the Loves are the Babes, which were designed to take a baseball. A bit larger than the Babes are the ones known as Animals. The largest cups he produces are called Gazzos, and are some of the more popular street performing cups in use today. Thanks, Jim, for providing the URL to Gary Animal's Yellowmelon website. You can see most of Gary's cups there. Some are only available in very limited quantities, and some are being discontinued. The large street style cups, the Gazzos, should be available in the near future at Gazzo's Magic Pitch site. Greg |

Hi, Gary Animal here
Thanks for the plug. I'm making 6 more sets of love cups in guild and six in copper plus 5 to ten sets of my other designs. I also just made the small top super animal cup (small top Gazzo basically. I'll be selling them for a few weeks via yellowmelon.co.uk. The stock will be in in two weeks (some already in) I'm making a few sets of the big three babes.animals ,gazzos in double thick copper and guild. After a few weeks I'm shipping the lot to magicpitch to handle. Then I'm having a year of to concentrate on street performing as I've missed it. cheers |
