Another cool trick by dante king:
The Effect: The magician performs a card trick with two packets of cards. He mentions that there are usually two questions asked by an audience. 1. ''Will you repeat that? '' And. 2. ''Can I examine those cards?'' The answer to both these questions, YES. Now each time, in an increasingly magical manner, a packet of playing cards are made to turn face up and again face down in the magicians hands. All of the backs appear and without physically turning them over, then, all of the faces appear in their place, they have magically turned over! The pattern or paradigm has changed! For the surprise finish, one of the packets of cards change into Jokers and the rest of the cards all now have completely different back design patterns! All can be handed for examination. This comes with detailed instructions and two excellent patter presentations. The cards used are Bicycle, Poker sized cards. If you like great, fully examinable magic this is just for you. Enjoy |

I suggest you read the entire description at Dante's "Paradigm Shift" page. You'll note that Dante adds, "It was created by friend and owner of California Magic and Novelty, Gerry Griffin."
It was Gerry and I who put this trick together. In fact, I suggested the name as a joke, but Gerry liked it and the name stuck. Inside, you'll find both Gerry's presentations and mine. Gerry Griffin, BTW, is the one presenting it on the movie at the website. Maybe I'm biased, but I love this routine! |

I had this card trick performed today for me when I was at California Magic and Novelty, picking up Ammar's Card Miracle's VOL 2. It is a very solid piece of magic and comes off very smooth. The basic effect is repeated just enough baffle the audience(very powerfully in fact)and to really suck them into the trick. Then to complete the creshendo of miracles, a fantastic effect is employed that is sure to produce a reaction. The sudden emergence of the radically different card backs is a dramatic way to complete the trick to say the least. When smoothly performed it is truly a powerfull explosion of card magic. I just discovered this forum and thought is was cool to see a post on a trick I saw today, so I felt that I should speak up. Easily worth eleven bucks!

Why did you type Sympathetic Cards with a ton of number in between the letters?
sympathetic cards 1373910275 797092 If you are insinuating that this is simply a ripp off of the Sypathetic Cards effect than you are wrong. This is much more clever and has a very nice surprise ending. Jakks |

I used a coded message because I always think it's weird that whenever someone brings up paradigm shift no one ever mentions how similar the effect is to sympathetic cards. It makes me feel like there's some kind of weird X-Files type of conspiracy going on where no one's allowed to mention the two together (now I'm done for). I agree that the two effects are different (PS probably being more clever), but they're also very similar.
Sympathetic cards also has the surprise ending with the cards having different backs. If that's the one you mean.

I'm alive! Thanks to Scully and Mulder. They said the saving of my life and uncovering the magic conspiracy should be their highest rated show ever.
I guess the two effects are different enough so that some people would prefer one over the other, which seems to be the case.

Yes, the effects are similar but the surprise ending(s) make it worth getting.

Yea, I do not perfrom or create this effect. Gerry, a wonderful human being, excellent card handler and friend ( can I call you a friend Gerry?) let me market this. This is a great effect. Kudos to Mr. Cram and Griffin on their excellent work!!!!

BTW, Dante, you have a somewhat ironic graphic for your description - there's only one dime! Shouldn't there be a pair of them?

Sorry to necromance this thread but is the effect still available to purchase? I can’t seem to find it and Dante King’s site is no more.
