Ok – I need some of you veterans to assist me here. Concerning the “Street Magic Exposed” special on Fox.
If this was asked and answered before – I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction, thanks. Ok – First off – none of the effects had the correct “names,” I assume there is some legality there – they can’t come out and say “This is The raven” made by Chuck Leech – there would be some issues with that I am sure. Plus the good side is – it keeps wanna bes away from finding documentation and the gaffs needed to execute these effects. Secondly – let’s mention the raven for a second – they clearly showed a Raven – which is Chuck’s invention – they don’t need any permission to display this creation? I would think if anyone could so for “loss of wages” it would be chuck – but then in the same light – the cigg through coin gimmick they showed looked like some hack job with rubber bands! This is not the Johnson gimmick or any gimmick I have ever seen! It looks like something they made for the show. So – did they get permission from Chuck but not from Johnson coins? This seems odd to me. Why they can show one gimmick , but not the other. Third – speaking of gimmicks – what in the heck was that “controlled device” that altered the watch pin? That looked like some sort of science project! Am I just so out of touch with street magic that I don’t know this effect is out there? Blaine used the Psychochentic Time effect – so like the coin trick – they can expose one trick correctly – but not another…. Lastly, if anyone is doing PK factor with a brick like magnet in your sleeve, I hope you are not getting questions about your square muscles… Blessings, |

David,
First, many effects are known by more than one name -- just check your magic catalogs; sometimes the same trick is advertised twice with two different names, and you can actually end up buying the same trick twice! Second, anything can be exposed -- there's no real legal protection. Besides, if there were, it would only require a few simple adjustments to make the "new" gimmick different enough from the original to get by any restrictions. Third, I don't think anyone other that those working on the show have ever seen that Rube Goldberg invention before! And, lastly -- well, yes, exactly! |

FOX would buy anything, I think the Café and all of the members should make a show, but instead of exposing the tricks expose it the wrong way, like not even exposing it really, that way we can all have our 1 minute of fame and FOX would look like crap, for naming our show, "SECRETS REVELED"
just a thought LOL!! -Chris
shhh..... I see Magicians.....

I think a lot of people have said some awesome things about how this whole show, and all the others really don't damege magic in that big a way. People have been "exposing" us for years but the non-performer doesn't care enoguh to rememebr and/or invest the serious time to get to be "in the know" on the magic scene. Our lives will go on and I think we only give Fox more power by showing them we care.
The only thing that bothered me was the crudy way the announcer guy portrayed magicians and the images we project of ourselves. Everyone, mostly, I perform for knows I'm not really magical. They watch b/c they like being fooled. The announcer guy made us out like we wanted others to think of us as Gods. ~Spiff |

I agree with Spiff. The show didn't seem like it did that much damage but I just didn't like the way the announcer had his little comments like, "Not very magical is it?" or "Come on. You really didn't think it was magic." I think this just made the people at Fox look bad.

I don't have Fox here in Portugal either, but "Street Magic Revealed" was broadcast here by a public tv station!

I got a lot of negitive attitude toward me after that show. I will entertain other students and teachers during a study hall or lunch in high school. I use the raven an cig through coin (I use a rolled up dollar though). I got a lot of junk from people when I do those effects now. That masked guy isn't a magician, he tells everything he knows! Not to mention hes not that great in the first place...

That would be funny, doing false secrets...
i was once one of those scouring the internet for secrets (so i could do them). Those FOX shows are a blessing and a curse... I didnt need to pay for good stuff to add to my routine. anywho.... there was this one site i found that was hilarious. it was saying crap about "the backs of cards have a heat activated, color changing ink". They showed Copperfield's "plans" for the statue of liberty vanish (it was a crayon drwing with the pedastal and where the statue should be, there was a big "poof") funny stuff!

How he ,with such a ease told everyone "We at the FOX, we are sooo smart and inteligent and you (TV audience) are idiots sooo stupid for believing that it's real magic. And the fact they get away with such a insult it's the real mystery to me. And by the way, personaly I never have to tell my audience or anyone that I'm a God. Why? Because they know that allready. Also "PAYNE"!!! Where do you can get those "Pollacks" pigeons? Last time I was asking for them in Europe they have beat me with the 6'Pole. So is there a easier way to get them? Please help Vaclav |
