Yup. Great show. I'm going to see them Feb. 7th at Segerstrom Center in Orange County. Looking forward to it.

Hi Alex.
Wow, twice huh? That's a good sign. What was the magician line-up, if I may ask? You can pm so its not a spoiler for other magicians planning to attend. |

Just saw it tonight. Fantastic show, my wife and 7 year old daughter thought it was crazy cool. Might catch it again at the Pantages in a few weeks. Slightly disappointed Shin Lim wasn't there but the replacement magician was really great.

Loved Dan Sperry (the Marilyn Manson of magic), in particular, and the audience really reacted to his "gross-out magic." Sperry and Kevin James kept the magic going, while Jeff Hobson---dubbed "The Trickster"---was a delight throughout. Hobson is the long-lost love child of Paul Lynde, Liberace, Phyllis Diller, and Steve Martin, and while his magic was sparse, he was the perfect master of ceremonies. I would have loved to see Shin Lim (I don't believe he has ever been part of The Illusionists, though), but Yu Ho-Jin's card manipulation routine was stunning in its theatrical beauty, even if there were several flashes from my angle. But the centerpiece of the night was Andrew Basso's Houdini water escape. I've seen that escape on TV so many times that I have nothing but a big yawn for it, but seeing it in person had me on the edge of my seat. Plus, it didn't hurt that Basso is easy on the eyes. The thing about The Illusionists isn't the amazing cutting-edge magic. Because, frankly, a lot of the magic is old, standard fare. Except for Ho-Jin, there isn't a lot of technical work and finger flinging. What makes this show such a joy is the production design. It was as if someone set out to prove once and for all the old adage that presentation is everything. At several points I found myself thinking, "Yes, that's the way that trick should be done." Sperry's bird and silks routine isn't your grandfather's magic. And while Kevin James has been doing his floating rose routine for decades (heck, even I do that trick), it's still the most charming moment of the evening when he comes down into the audience to do it with a little girl. I recommend this show. So much stage magic is cheesy, tired or disjointed. It was refreshing to see a production put together with such a great eye, talent, and a big budget. It is the way stage magic should be done in the 21st century.

Thank you for posting this -- I live in Nashville, TN and have been looking for a show to take my six year old son to; and have been unsuccessful in finding anything nearby. I've been planning to fly us to Vegas to catch a couple of shows; but there are a couple on here that are relatively short drive for us.

Just saw the Illusionsists show quite recently. The water torture escape left me in awe. Jeff Hobson is an incredible host. Colin's mentalism was ridiculous, and Dan Sperry was by far the most interesting character. Kevin James' floating rose of course was beautiful. Everything was fantastic. one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Saw Illusionists Turn of the Century after Thanks Giving at the Palace Theater on Broadway.
Great production over all, and a fantastic choice of magicians to create the atmosphere including Rick Thomas, Mark Kalin, Charlie Frye - all three play great characters which fit the bill. Loved the cameo with all the illusionists at the beginning of the second half. The show runs in Broadway until New Year' s Day. Ticket prices vary a lot but we got great seats with an unblocked view for $47 US. Well worth it (I saw Illusionists 2 in Istanbul 10 times. This Broadway show I enjoyed much more) |

Went to the opening show in Portland last night. The line-up was Jeff Hobson, Andrew Bosso, Colin Cloud, Jonathon Goodwin, Kevin James, An Ha Lim, and Dan Sperry. I really enjoyed it and my wife did too.

I am going to see the show on Sunday. Hope it is worth it ☺️, but I guess I’ll love it as a fan of Yu Ho Jin. Does anybody know if he performs his whole Fism act on the show?

Seeing the scaled down version on the 28th. A little disappointed that it's only 5 guys. I've seen it the first year on Broadway, the following year touring, and last year The Turn of the Century on Broadway. It's an amazing show an I've had several laymen friends go and enjoy it very much.
