Hey guys!
I'm going to be releasing a new rope effect soon called The End-of-my-Rope Trick. I'm trying to finish the DVD and wracking my brain to cover everything and I thought I'd go to the experts to ask a few questions -- hope that's okay. (Video here: https://youtu.be/Hrm2oDSUsf8 ). First off, if anyone has any good sources for buying rope (in bulk especially) I'd appreciate it. I checked a few threads on this forum and a lot of the info seemed to be out of date so I thought I'd see if anyone had new ideas on this. Second, I've checked with a number of very knowledgeable people and so far it seems the core of this routine is new. But still, nothing is entirely new and I want to reference antecedents -- so far we have the Multiple Rope Cut from Tarbell, a Bill Larsen piece in Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks, a 17th century work called "La Magie du Pont Neuf" and a few other things. If anyone has anything else, would appreciate the insights, either here or via PM. Also, part of the reason I called it The End-of-my-Rope Trick is because it would make a good finish for many other rope routines. If you have any thoughts on good lead ins for this effect, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Is there anything you would like to see on this release and since there will be people getting this who haven't done a lot of rope magic, is there anything you think I should include on this release for them. More info and some testimonials on the effect below. Thanks! -Chris "I can't believe you fooled me so hard that I'm putting down my cards to learn a rope trick!" - Jon Armstrong "The cutting is really convincing, which is essential for a strong effect, and the restoration is as visual and impressive as Anderson's flash restoration in his newspaper tear." - Tom Stone "Wow! Amazing! I've been working on the multiple cut rope plot for several years and that first performance with the rope tied around the wrists both completely fooled AND excited me!" - Bill Abbott "Congratulations to my good friend Chris Philpott on releasing what has to be one of the greatest rope tricks of all time!" - Steve Valentine "Chris doesn't release a lot of magic. But when he does release a trick, it's *** good. Here he's taken the cut-and-restored rope trick... and figured out a way to do it six times at once. People might be able to conceive of a way a single cut could be mended... but six cuts at once? That's just impossible!" -Rick Lax From the creator of The 100th Monkey comes a new, versatile and incredibly visual method for rope magic! The magician coils a rope and has a spectator cut through all the strands – the magician then throws the many pieces and they join in the air! The rope is never covered or switched and it can be examined before and after the effect! The End-of-my-Rope Trick is a stunning stand-alone trick, but it’s also the perfect climax for a variety of other rope routines. Chris (an award-winning screenwriter) has found a way to raise the stakes on classic rope routines while staying true to the original premise. Can be used with a myriad of materials – from chain links to mouth coils – and with a variety of effects. It makes a perfect finish for a ring-on-string routine: you can thread a string through a ring four times then pull it right off! It also works as a rope penetration: thread a coiled rope over your arm or leg and then pull it right through! More info and pre-sales here: http://magicaonline.com/endofmyrope.htm |

Chris,
Part of the routine reminds me of Mac King's cut and restored rope, in the sense that there are multiple pieces of cut rope. Also, Patrick Page put out Rope Rope Rope where a piece of rope is cut in two places to create three pieces of rope; these ropes are tossed out, and they have been restored. Bobby p.s. I love rope magic, and this effect looks beautiful.

Thanks, Bobby! Will include those references. The list of antecedents and links to rope sellers are going to be included along with the scripts -- it didn't make too much sense to recite them on the DVD.
Here's the new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30RhPCs1iEA The DVD has been completed and is now shipping! -Chris |
