For all of you who loves to perform the Chinese Linking Rings, here is a tip from what ended up using in my shows. For many years now, I have been using the standard 10 inch rings with 1/4 inch stock, stainless steel. So I went on a mission of looking for a 12 inch set with bigger stock. There is nothing out there unless you want to spend couple of hundreds on a set. I do not want to spend too much. The 10 inch set I have is good for my small shows but when I do big venues, people do not see the rings much. I bought a 12-inch set stainless alloy from Ebay. I think I paid $36/set free shipping, I bought two sets so I can have all the configurations. The set is 6 rings, 3 linked, 2 singles and the key. It does not have the 2-linked so I cut one off so I have all the configurations now with some extra as reserve in case they break. I love this set, very light yet still sound solid. When I did the crash link, the magnets for the magnetic lock came loose and they are somewhere inside. But I do not need them because I can prove them solid with some sleight of hand moves. I love this set because they have bigger stock, visible from long distance, still sounds great when banged with each other and very light. I do not have to worry that the kids will get hurt if they drop it. This is my favorite set now. I can do many moves very easily. And they look very smooth, no visible welding spots or bump.

I always thought that Vincenzo Di Fatta 12" Chrome Linking Rings were very nice quality, and comes in a set of 8. For only $60.00 looks like a good buy.
They also make a set of 12" in Stainless Steel, at only $100.00, another good sounding buy. Of course they do not lock, but as far as quality, it looks good. |

Had a run at the state fair and the linking rings worked very well. There are a couple of things in the routine I had to change because the gap is very small compared to Pop Haydn's. Bill was right about the magnet - after several shows the magnet didn't hold as well as it did when new - I guess this is due to the flexing of the ring when being manipulated. However, I purchased a few 10mm diameter X 1mm thick magnets (supermagnetman.com), and just one of these in the gap does the trick. It's not visible from about 12 feet, closer than that if you're actually performing with them. From platform or stage it's totally invisible. Very happy with these inexpensive rings!

Still performing with these rings - great value = highly recommended. (I did have to glue my magnets in place, during one performance linking the rings caused the magnets to fall on the floor). Jim
